A Senator's Gambit: More Than Just Politics?
Right then darlings! Lara Croft here trading in my dual pistols for a bit of political intrigue. Word on the street – or should I say from the Senate floor – is that Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen has been gallivanting off to El Salvador. Apparently some chap named Kilmar Abrego Garcia was given the old heave ho from Maryland back to El Salvador quite mistakenly I might add. The Senator's not just sightseeing; he's there to ensure this Abrego Garcia fellow gets a fair shake. It seems the Trump administration admitted they blundered – a rare occurrence wouldn't you agree?
Upholding the Law: A Tomb Raider's Code?
Van Hollen seems rather keen on this "rule of law" business. Says if they yank it from Abrego Garcia it puts everyone at risk. Sounds a bit like when I'm trying to nab a priceless artifact – you start bending the rules next thing you know you're knee deep in booby traps and ancient curses. Always best to stick to the path eh? Though admittedly my path usually involves a bit of creative interpretation... and the odd explosion.
Constitutional Crisis?! A Real Cliffhanger
Hold onto your hats because Senator Van Hollen is claiming we're in a full blown "constitutional crisis!" Now I've faced my fair share of crises usually involving crumbling temples and rather peckish crocodiles. But a *constitutional* one? That sounds like a particularly nasty puzzle even for me! Still a crisis it is – more excitement than your average Tuesday. As my dear Winston would say 'Get on with it Lara!'
El Salvador Shenanigans: Presidential Obstacles
The plot thickens! Apparently the President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele isn't exactly keen on sending Abrego Garcia back to the US. Our chaps in Washington have rather thrown their hands up despite some Supreme Court meddling. It seems this Abrego Garcia has been suffering "experienced trauma" as a result of his imprisonment. Good heavens! This sounds like something out of one of my adventures only with fewer mummies and more paperwork. Still "Nothing haunts us like the lives we don't live" so the Senator's efforts are commendable.
CECOT Prison: Sounds Positively Delightful
And what's this about being originally sent to CECOT "which is this notorious prison," Van Hollen said on "This Week." "He told me about the trauma he had been experiencing both in terms of the abduction" Now that's sounds like a charming holiday destination doesn't it? Almost makes me want to book a little trip. No rest for the weary!
Another Adventure Awaits?
So there you have it darlings! A senator's quest for justice a potential constitutional meltdown and a healthy dose of international intrigue. Who knows maybe I'll pop over to El Salvador myself. I hear they have some rather interesting ruins... and possibly a wrongfully deported chap needing a hand. After all "We all make our own choices. It's how we live with them that defines us."
