OMG What's Happening with My Internet?!
Okay so like I heard about this *major* news. Cloudflare which is like totally the backbone of the internet for so many sites is doing this thing where they're gonna block AI crawlers by default. Basically these crawlers are bots that grab info to train AI like the ones that power those chatbots everyone's obsessed with. But they've been doing it without asking! Like rude.
Is This the End of My Wikipedia Stalking?
Apparently these AI crawlers have been scraping content without limits and Cloudflare is basically like 'Hold up not on my watch!' Their CEO Matthew Prince said it's about giving power back to the creators which like YES! It’s about safeguarding the future of a free and vibrant Internet with a new model that works for everyone! I mean who wants their stuff being used without permission? It’s like someone taking my lip kit formula and selling it as their own. Unacceptable!
AI Crawlers? More Like AI Creepers!
So these AI crawlers are basically automated bots that swipe content from websites to train those fancy AI models made by companies such as OpenAI and Google. Cloudflare says these crawlers are snatching text articles and images so users don’t even have to visit the original websites. It's depriving publishers of traffic and in turn money! Like that's not cute.
Blocking Bots: A Bold Move
Cloudflare already had a tool to block these AI crawlers but now they're making it the *default* for new websites. Talk about a glow up! It's like going from a natural lip to a fully contoured perfectly lined masterpiece. A game changer! Giving all the power to the creators. It’s the ultimate clap back.
Drama Alert: OpenAI's Shade
Of course OpenAI who makes the chatbot everyone is obsessed with isn’t thrilled. They're saying Cloudflare is adding a 'middleman'. But like isn't that what everyone says about success. I’m pretty sure they are just mad because it’s gonna make it harder for them to train their AI. They even said they're Robots.txt Pioneers so they do not need to participate. Sure Jan.
The Future is Unwritten... For Now
Some experts are saying this could slow down AI model training. Matthew Holman a partner at Cripps told CNBC AI crawlers are seen as invasive. But honestly I’m here for it. Creators deserve to control their content. It’s all about setting boundaries. I’m so glad someone's finally standing up for the little guy or in this case the little blog. Like period!
