A Titan's Ransom
Hmph. Google. Another giant brought to its knees. Texas claims this 'Google' stole secrets – tracked movements listened to whispers mapped faces. Like the gods of Olympus they believed themselves untouchable. They were wrong. A settlement of nearly $1.4 billion. A king's ransom! It seems this 'Attorney General Paxton' has a spine. Unlike some gods I knew. *cough* Zeus *cough*.
The Sins of Incognito
They hid in the shadows of 'Incognito,' these Google servants. Thought they could mask their deeds. But secrets like vengeful spirits always find their way to the surface. The 'Chrome browser' the 'Google Maps app' and 'Google Photos' were their tools of deception. Such arrogance believing they could outsmart mortal men. *Scoffs* I’ve battled gods with more cunning.
Echoes of Facebook's Failings
This 'Paxton' boasts of a previous victory against another beast 'Meta' the parent of 'Facebook' and 'Instagram'. Seems these digital titans share a common flaw: a disregard for the very mortals they claim to serve. They gather biometric data like vultures picking at a corpse and now they pay the price. Perhaps they should have learned from Pandora's Box curiosity killed the cat. Or in this case the corporation.
No Admission Only Coin
Google claims no guilt of course. As if throwing mountains of gold at a problem absolves them of their sins. They claim these are 'old claims'. Lies! Deception! These are the words of a serpent twisting and slithering to avoid the truth. 'We will continue to build robust privacy controls into our services' they say. Bah! Words are wind! Show me the proof or face the Blades of Chaos!
Texas Stands Firm
Paxton roars "In Texas Big Tech is not above the law!" A noble sentiment. Reminds me of a time when I stood against the gods themselves. Though I confess my methods were... less monetary. He calls this a 'major win'. Perhaps. But the war against those who abuse power is never truly over. There will always be more monsters to slay.
A Ghost's Final Thought
This 'settlement'…it offers some measure of solace to those whose privacy was violated. But the true victory lies in vigilance. Remember mortals knowledge is power. Question everything. Trust no one. And always *always* be wary of those who offer convenience in exchange for your soul... or your data. Now where is that boy? I need to teach him how to properly respect privacy... and wield an axe.
