Friday Night Lights… And Dunks!
Alright folks Tony Stark here reporting live from my Malibu pad (where the Wi Fi is always supercharged unlike some networks I could mention). Word on the street – or rather on the news wires – is that the WNBA just landed a serious upgrade. They've struck a multi year deal with Ion to keep those Friday night games coming at ya. And get this they're even adding a weekly studio show. Now that's what I call progress! Even I might tune in…if Pepper lets me control the remote for once.
From Zero to Hero: WNBA's Viewership Soars
Remember when everyone thought women's sports were shall we say 'underappreciated'? Well those days are gone faster than one of my repulsor blasts! Apparently Ion has seen a massive 133% jump in viewership for their Friday night WNBA coverage. That's right people are actually watching! More than 23 million unique viewers! It's like when I revealed I was Iron Man. Everyone suddenly cared about science and explosions. Coincidence? I think not!
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese: The Dynamic Duo
So word is some players named Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese might have something to do with this surge in popularity. I'm not one to take credit away from individuals but let's be honest the WNBA's taking flight and those names are ringing bells louder than JARVIS when I need a cup of coffee. These players are 'a legend' said in my best dramatic voice.
Scripps and the WNBA: A Beautiful Partnership
Scripps CEO Adam Symson is quoted saying that the partnership with the WNBA has flourished and they're thrilled to solidify Ion's status as the premier Friday night destination for WNBA action for years to come. That's some pretty high praise. You know what else flourishes? My genius billionaire playboy philanthropist status. But hey enough about me. (Just kidding never enough about me.)
WNBA Commissioner: Expanding Reach and Visibility
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert says the partnership with Scripps has helped the league expand its reach and visibility. Now *that's* what I'm talking about! Expanding reach and visibility is my specialty. Just ask my PR team. Or don't. They're probably still recovering from the last time I went rogue on a press conference.
Big Numbers Big Deals
So the WNBA signed an 11 year media rights deal with Disney Amazon and Comcast owned NBCUniversal last July as part of the NBA's media rights negotiation. The WNBA's deal is valued at about $200 million per year. Let's put this in perspective: that's like… a lot of shawarma. And considering the WNBA's trajectory I wouldn't be surprised if that number keeps climbing. Maybe I should invest. After all I am Iron Man. And Iron Investors sounds pretty good too. JARVIS make a note!
