Fortune and Glory... and Freight!

Right then! Indiana Jones here back from dodging booby traps and wrestling priceless artifacts from the clutches of unscrupulous villains. But even I a humble archaeologist can't ignore the rumblings of the modern world. Seems this 'CSX' – a railroad company mind you not some lost civilization – is booming thanks to good ol' American ingenuity and a government push for domestic manufacturing. Joe Hinrichs the head honcho over there was yapping to some fella named Jim Cramer on CNBC about how they've got factories popping up faster than snakes in a pit. 'We had 37 plants open on our network this year so far already,' he said. Sounds like someone's been digging in the right place eh? Last year 500 projects were underway to find locations on the network and this number is now 600!

Made in the USA: A Real Treasure!

Now I'm no economist but even I can see that more stuff made in the U.S. of A. means more business for these rail barons. As the products are being made in the U.S. then that would result in the better situation for the Rail Road company or so says Mr. Hinrichs. Reminds me of the time I found that golden idol – heavy as all get out but worth its weight in well gold! Of course that didn't stay in my hands for very long but the train will.

Tariff Troubles: It Belongs in a Museum!

Of course nothing's ever that simple is it? Seems these 'tariffs' – taxes on goods from other countries like China – are causing a bit of a kerfuffle. Hinrichs admitted that less than 10% of revenue is from China but those West Coast ports bring in a lot of traffic to Chicago and Memphis and then the Rail Road serves the population on the East side of the Mississippi River. This makes the tariffs a bit tricky for CSX. Much like that Hovitos tribe trying to steal my idol! Some things just belong in a museum... or maybe on a train headed somewhere else.

Hurricane Havoc: Nature's Booby Trap!

And just when you think you've outrun the boulder Mother Nature throws another obstacle your way. Hurricane Helene that blasted tempest ripped through the East Coast like a runaway locomotive! Hinrichs said CSX lost a fourth of its network and it is still rebuilding the network. Apparently CSX lost a quarter of its network going north and south when the hurricane struck. This is reminiscent of the numerous obstacles I have encountered to getting the treasure that I was after. It won't be back until the fourth quarter and they are starting to run a lot better so they feel good about where they are.

Rebuilding the Rails: The Real Adventure

Rebuilding a railroad eh? Sounds like a job for a real adventurer. I reckon it's not quite as glamorous as raiding tombs but it's got its own challenges. Dodging fallen trees wrestling twisted metal... sounds awfully familiar actually! A lot better than dodging bullets I would reckon!.

Fortune Favors the Fast... and the Ferrous!

So there you have it folks! CSX a railroad company is riding the rails of American resurgence dodging tariff troubles and rebuilding after a hurricane. It's a reminder that even in the modern world the spirit of adventure – and the pursuit of fortune and glory! – is alive and well. Now if you'll excuse me I've got a map to decipher and a plane to catch. There's a lost city in South America calling my name! After all railroad spikes don't make good treasures.
