Bureaucrats Why Did It Have To Be Bureaucrats?

Well hello there folks! Indiana Jones here your friendly neighborhood archaeologist and purveyor of historical mayhem. Seems there's a bit of a dust up brewing in Washington and this time it's not about ancient artifacts but something far more terrifying: government agencies! The Federal Reserve's Inspector General is poking around the Trump administration's rather enthusiastic attempts to shall we say 'rearrange' the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Word is they were trying to give nearly everyone the boot and cancel contracts left and right. I've faced down Nazis dodged poison darts and even survived a fridge in a nuclear blast but this… this is bureaucracy at its finest.

Snakes! Why Did It Have To Be Contracts?

According to a top secret communique (a letter really) from Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Andy Kim the Inspector General's office has taken up the task of investigating the ahem 'bold' moves of the CFPB's new leadership. Apparently our acting Inspector General Fred Gibson was already on the case sniffing around workforce reductions. Now they're expanding the search to include those pesky canceled contracts. Contracts! Almost as bad as snakes.

Vought's Raiders of the Lost Agency

This all started when Trump's acting CFPB head a fella named Russell Vought decided to play hardball. He told employees to down tools and brought in operatives from Elon Musk's 'Department of Government Efficiency' to thin the herd and terminate contracts. Sounds like a scene straight out of one of my adventures only instead of a golden idol it's… paperwork. I need a drink.

Fortune and Glory...or Just Accountability?

Senators Warren and Kim bless their bureaucratic hearts weren't too thrilled about this. They asked the Fed Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate the legality of Vought's actions. The GAO is already on the case. Senator Kim put it rather bluntly saying that an independent investigation is essential to understand the damage done by the Trump administration and ensure the CFPB can still do its job. 'Fortune and glory kid. Fortune and glory.' Or in this case maybe just accountability.

The Inspector General Strikes Back!

Now this Inspector General fella has some serious power. He can examine records issue subpoenas and even interview personnel. And if he finds anything dodgy he can refer it to the Department of Justice. Our very own governmental 'ark of the covenant' may be on the case...let's hope it doesn't melt anyone's face off!

Judgement Day

Of course there's a looming decision from a federal appeals court hanging over everything. Judges have temporarily halted Vought's efforts to lay off employees but the Trump administration is appealing. The fate of the CFPB hangs in the balance. One thing's for sure this is one bureaucratic booby trap that I'm glad I'm not navigating. Give me a pit of snakes any day!
