Staffing shortages and other 'peculiar' circumstances have left United Airlines passengers stranded, but at least they're waiving change fees. Small mercies, I suppose.

Another Fine Mess: Muggles vs. Muggle Technology

Honestly you wouldn't believe the state of things! It appears United Airlines at Newark Liberty International Airport is having a spot of bother. And by 'spot of bother,' I mean hundreds of flights delayed and goodness knows how many disgruntled passengers. Apparently air traffic controller staffing issues are to blame. One might think with all the advances in Muggle technology they'd have figured out how to manage air traffic without a complete and utter scramble. It’s a bit like trying to navigate the Hogwarts library without knowing the Dewey Decimal System...utter chaos I tell you!

More Than Just a Funny Name: Why Newark Matters

Newark it seems is one of the most congested airports in the country. United's CEO Scott Kirby has been quite vocal about the controller shortages. He's not wrong you know. It reminds me of when we were trying to sneak around Hogwarts – one wrong move and BAM! Filch and Mrs. Norris on your tail. The pressure is immense and clearly something has to give.

The Blame Game: FAA in the Hot Seat

United is pointing fingers at the FAA citing technology outages runway construction and even high winds! Honestly high winds? Sounds like something out of a Quidditch match! The FAA meanwhile claims it's a staffing issue. It's like when Ron and Harry blamed each other for messing up a simple Levitation Charm – the truth is usually somewhere in the middle isn't it? But at least Professor Flitwick didn't make 200 muggles spend their night sleeping in the airport.

The Department of Transportation Attempts a Solution (Sort Of)

The Transportation Department is offering incentives to alleviate the air traffic controller shortages. I suppose it’s a start but it feels a bit like offering a single Knut to someone who’s lost their entire Gringotts vault! These problems have been brewing for years exacerbated by the training pauses during... well you know. (Let’s not dwell on the dark times shall we?)

A Silver Lining? (Maybe)

United is waiving change fees and fare differences for affected customers. Which I suppose is moderately better than nothing. It's like Snape grudgingly awarding Gryffindor a single point after we'd saved the entire school. A small gesture in the face of a monumental inconvenience.

Accio Competent Air Traffic Control!

Honestly you'd think in this day and age they'd have sorted out these issues. Perhaps they need a bit of Hermione Granger style organization and problem solving. Or failing that maybe just a good swift 'Accio competent air traffic control!' But alas I fear I'm needed elsewhere probably deciphering ancient runes or brewing a particularly complicated potion. Still one can hope things improve. After all even Ron managed to learn Wingardium Leviosa eventually.
