A Shadow in the Deep
Hmph! A rather grim tale has reached even my ears carried on the winds from across the Great Sea. Word comes of the 'Bayesian,' a vessel of considerable size dragged from its watery grave off the coast of Sicily. Ten months it has slumbered beneath the waves a long watch indeed and a sad one for it claimed the lives of Mike Lynch his daughter and several others. Such events remind us that even the grandest works of Men are but fleeting when faced with the fury of nature. It is a dark day when the sea claims so many souls. May they find rest in the Halls of Mandos.
Out of the Abyss
The salvage I hear was no simple task. A crane mightier than even the war machines of Mordor (though hopefully less inclined towards destruction) was employed to wrest the 'Bayesian' from the seabed. Fifty meters! A considerable depth even for a dwarf of Moria. One can only imagine the state of the vessel after such an ordeal. Mud caked and battered I am told. Much like myself after a particularly spirited debate with Saruman though I trust the 'Bayesian' will fare better in its rehabilitation.
Winds of Wrath
It seems a sudden storm a tempest of no small fury was the culprit behind this tragedy. Winds exceeding 70 miles per hour they say. Strong enough to make even a Balrog pause for thought. 'Fool of a Took!' one might say to anyone who underestimated such a force. The vessel it appears was caught unawares and the sea ever hungry claimed its prize. A cautionary tale for all who venture onto the water: heed the weather for even the most magnificent ship is but a leaf in a storm.
Severing the Sky Scraper
A curious detail! The mast towering some 72 meters above the deck was severed using a remote controlled cutting tool. A clever invention to be sure though I still prefer a good axe when the situation calls for it. It is certainly less subtle than a Lembas breadcrumb trail! With the mast detached the task of raising the 'Bayesian' became shall we say less…elevated.
A Somber Procession
The 'Bayesian' will be held aloft examined and prepared for transport to Termini Imerese. There the authorities will delve into the mysteries of its sinking. I daresay they will find no small amount of sorrow amidst the wreckage. One hopes that justice will prevail and that the truth like a beacon in the night will illuminate the events that led to this tragedy. 'All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us' and bringing justice is a worthy use of time indeed.
Lessons from the Deep
Let this be a reminder my friends that life is precious and fragile. The sea while beautiful can be a harsh mistress. We must respect her power heed her warnings and never take our safety for granted. And perhaps most importantly remember those who were lost on that fateful day. May their memories be a light to guide us through the darkness. Now if you'll excuse me I think I will brew a cup of tea. Even wizards need a moment of contemplation after such news 'I think a change is good as a rest'.
