A Great Disturbance in the Force... or Just the Market?
I sense a great disturbance in the Force. Pop Mart purveyor of those trinkets the masses adore – particularly the 'Labubu' abominations – has seen its stock price plummet. A most unwelcome development. Morgan Stanley in their infinite wisdom (or perhaps clouded judgment) has removed the company from its focus list. The fools! Do they not understand the power of plastic and blind box gambling? Perhaps they will learn the true power of the Dark Side... or at least a collectible figurine.
The Empire Strikes Back... at Pop Mart's Valuation
The Hong Kong listed shares have fallen more than 5% a continuation of the previous session's pathetic slide. This has the stock on track for its first negative week since early May – with losses of more than 13% so far! Year to date gains are still over 160% but such is the way of the Force. There is always a bigger fish… or in this case a more enticing insurance company PICC P & C which now occupies Pop Mart's former position of perceived glory. Perhaps I should invest in PICC P & C. Insurance fraud could be a lucrative avenue to fund the Death Star's third iteration.
Long Term Outlook: A Trap!
Morgan Stanley's justification is as predictable as the Emperor's schemes. They claim the market has already accounted for Pop Mart's 'exponential growth' through 2025. 'We do not expect this level of outperformance to continue in the next few quarters,' they bleat. Such short sightedness is appalling! Don't they realize the power of addiction? The relentless pursuit of that one elusive Labubu variant? It is… inevitable. Like my destiny.
Global Domination... or Just Overpriced Elves?
Pop Mart to its credit has spread its influence across the galaxy… or at least to the U.S. and U.K. with online sales platforms and physical stores. Their 'blind box' concept is insidious preying on the weak minded and their need for validation through trinkets. And this Labubu 'craze'? It’s reached the point where a 4 foot tall version sold for $170,000! The greed is strong with this one.
Luck or the Dark Side?
One 'expert,' Jacob Cooke dares to suggest Pop Mart is 'more lucky than anything.' Luck? Preposterous! It is the Dark Side that fuels their success. The allure of the unknown the thrill of the chase the crushing disappointment of yet another common figurine... all contribute to the addictive cycle. And addiction my friends is a powerful motivator.
The Force is Strong... With Their Sales Figures
Despite the stock market wailings Pop Mart's overseas sales have already surpassed their overall sales in 2021. In 2024 overseas sales alone surpassed that to hit 5.1 billion yuan up 373% from a year ago while mainland China sales climbed to 7.97 billion yuan. Pathetic. They are powerful as the emperor had foreseen. Perhaps these Labubu can be weaponized after all. I'll consider it.
