Gotham's Got Nothing on This...

Another day another disappointment. Seems the Trump administration has decided to pull the plug on a federal lawsuit against the National Collegiate Student Loan Trusts. A measly $2.25 million settlement meant for the very citizens these institutions preyed upon is now… dust. Like hope in Crime Alley. This city may have its share of financial villains but this stinks of something even Gotham's elite would scoff at.

A Trust Betrayed (Again)

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) once a beacon of hope filed the lawsuit back in 2017. They accused these 'trusts' of some serious offenses: improper debt collection lawsuits suing for debts they couldn't prove and trying to collect on debts past the legal limit. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Like the kind of shady dealings Penguin would cook up from the Iceberg Lounge. You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Sadly it seems like this administration has chosen the latter.

Two Faced Justice

The CFPB under the previous leadership was supposed to ensure this settlement reached the impacted borrowers. But now they've voluntarily dismissed it. It's like watching Two Face flip his coin and deciding heads the borrowers lose. Again. The hypocrisy is enough to make even Mr. Freeze feel the heat.

Gutting the Guardians

And as if that wasn't enough the Trump administration has been systematically dismantling the CFPB itself. Trying to axe 1,500 out of 1,700 employees? That's not downsizing that's demolition. A judge thankfully put a stop to it but the intent is clear: weaken the shield let the villains run wild. Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Déjà Vu All Over Again

This isn't an isolated incident either. The CFPB also dropped its lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. Accusations of illegally collecting on discharged debts and spreading false information? It's a pattern. A very disturbing pattern. The kind that warrants a full investigation starting now.

Silence of the Lambs (or Politicians)

The CFPB and White House along with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and counsel for the National Collegiate Student Loan Trusts declined to comment. Of course they did. Silence is the refuge of the guilty or at least those with something to hide. Fine then I'll just have to dig deeper. The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you dawn is coming.

I'm losing hope. Is there anyone on our side?
