The Shadows Lengthen
Another day another crisis brewing. This time it's not a maniac in a clown mask (though let's be honest that's always a possibility). No this is about tariffs. Trump's 10% tariff on imports has taken effect. They say it started at 12:01 a.m. ET. I was out. Probably stopping some thugs from boosting plasma TVs. But I digress. This whole thing… it's a rejection of the way things have been done since after the war. Mutually agreed upon rates? Gone. Like a criminal's alibi in the face of my evidence.
Seismic Shift or Just Another Bat Signal?
Kelly Ann Shaw some trade lawyer calls it the 'biggest trade action of our lifetime.' Says it's a 'seismic shift.' Big words. Reminds me of Ra's al Ghul talking about cleansing the world. This tariff thing could evolve she says. Countries will try to negotiate lower rates. We'll see. But this affects every country on Earth. That's a lot of moving parts. A lot of potential for chaos. And chaos… well you know how I feel about chaos.
Five Trillion Reasons to Worry
The markets are already reeling. Five TRILLION dollars wiped out. That's more than Wayne Enterprises spends on R&D in a decade. Oil and commodities are down. Investors are running scared. Makes sense. Fear is a powerful motivator. But so is hope. And a well placed batarang. Countries like Australia Britain and even Saudi Arabia are feeling the pinch. It's a tangled web. But when has anything in this city been simple?
Grace Period? Don't Bet on It
Customs says there's no grace period for goods already on the water. But there's a 51 day reprieve for some things that were loaded before the deadline. So loopholes. Always loopholes. Like the ones the Penguin uses to avoid taxes. It all arrives on May 27th to avoid the duty. The clock is ticking. Time… it's always been my greatest enemy.
Higher and Higher! The Reciprocal Tariff Tango
The fun really starts on Wednesday. That's when the 'reciprocal' tariffs kick in. Up to 50%! The EU gets hit with 20% China with 34%. It's like watching two titans slug it out in Crime Alley all over again. Vietnam who was enjoying a boost from the China situation gets slapped with a 46% tariff. They're already talking deals. Everyone wants a deal. But are they willing to pay the price?
The Exceptions: Because Every System Has Its Cracks
Canada and Mexico are exempt. For now. They're still dealing with the fentanyl tariffs. Trump is also excluding steel aluminum cars… all that stuff. Plus there's a list of over 1,000 products getting a pass. Crude oil pharmaceuticals uranium. The essentials. Apparently keeping the lights on and people alive is more important than a trade war. Go figure. But don't think I'm not watching. These exemptions could be hiding something. And I always find the truth. Always.

I hope someone is looking into those exemptions! Something shady is going on there!
