Chinese electric vehicle companies are experiencing significant growth, but safety concerns and market fluctuations raise questions about the sustainability of this electrifying boom. Even I'm watching this.

The Xpeng Rises (Again)

Gotham may be dark but the future seems to be electric at least in China. Xpeng one of these Chinese EV companies moved 35,045 units in April. They've been pulling these numbers for six months straight. That's like the Joker consistently pulling off heists without me stopping him... almost. They dropped their X9 model too and it seems to be a hit with consumers. It's all about the theatricality and deception... wait sorry wrong script. This is about cars not clowns.

Leapfrogging the Competition

Leapmotor actually surpassed Xpeng in April delivering 41,039 vehicles. Almost breaking their record. Shows that everyone is trying to level up their game. Guess it's true what they say 'What doesn't kill you makes you...stranger'.

Nio's Sub Plot Thickens

Nio delivered 19,269 vehicles while their sub brands Onvo and Firefly delivered 4,400 and 231 vehicles respectively. Onvo seems to be facing some challenges in deliveries from the previous month. Firefly is the new player delivering it's cars late in April. They're like Robin and Nightwing each with their own strengths but it remains to be seen if they can truly take flight. After all even the best sidekicks need a little help sometimes.

BYD: The Juggernaut Rolls On

BYD is... well they're like me but for the EV market. A force to be reckoned with. They sold 372,615 vehicles in April and their overseas sales are skyrocketing. They're unveiling new models left and right. They are not unstoppable like the Joker taught me everyone can be beat!

Stumbling Blocks on the Road to Electrification

Not everyone is winning. Zeekr and Li Auto saw a drop in deliveries. And Xiaomi... well they had a crash with fatalities. Safety is paramount. It's like I always say 'It's not who I am underneath but what I do that defines me.' And in the EV world what you do better be safe. Which is why I have Alfred upgrade the Batmobile EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.

Lidar: The Tech That Sees Through the Dark

The Shanghai Auto Show saw safety concerns take center stage. Automakers are embracing Lidar which helps cars 'see' the world around them. It's like my sonar vision but for the masses. Maybe with enough Lidar these cars can finally avoid hitting pedestrians. 'You have nothing nothing to threaten me with!'...except maybe your driving skills.

Are these cars reliable though? That's what I want to know.
