A World on Fire (And Not Just Gotham)
The clowns in Washington have decided to play with matches in the Middle East. The U.S. has officially joined the delightful dance between Iran and Israel. Oil markets are now more unstable than a Joker gas induced parade. Experts are predicting triple digit oil prices. Triple digits! Alfred's going to have a coronary when he sees the utility bill. I saw a thug today try to siphon gas from the Batmobile. Gotham's problems are leaking into international affairs. This city... I swear...
Tehran's Gambit: All Options on the Table
Iran's foreign minister is rattling sabers and threatening 'all options' to defend their sovereignty after the U.S. decided to bomb their 'nuclear facilities'. Oil futures are already up over 2%. The world is a stage and everyone's playing to the gallery. Even the rogues in my gallery show more subtlety. I can’t say for sure but I think Iran is bluffing. Maybe I should start wearing a Batsuit in Tehran too. Make an example out of someone.
The Strait of Hormuz: A Chokepoint of Doom
Ah the Strait of Hormuz. The jugular vein of the global oil supply. Iran's parliament is threatening to close it which would cut off about one fifth of global oil shipments. Some say it’s physically impossible but then they also said it was impossible for the Joker to escape Arkham. I'm starting to think someone needs to remind these people who they're dealing with.
Domino Effect: Consequences and Countermeasures
Experts believe if Iran closes the Strait Western forces will 'directly enter the fray.' We're talking oil prices potentially hitting $100 per barrel. A prolonged closure could lead to another Gulf War. Sounds delightful. I wouldn't mind a chance to test my new Bat Submersible but Gotham comes first. Always. Though the prospect of bringing order to such chaos... it's tempting.
Volatility: More Than Just Harvey Dent's Mood Swings
The CBOE crude oil volatility index is at levels last seen when Russia invaded Ukraine. The market is jittery but some experts believe the threats are mostly rhetorical. I however prepare for all possibilities. Gotham taught me that much. In the meantime I've instructed Lucius to prepare the Bat Tank just in case we need to secure our own oil reserves. You can never be too careful.
For Now... A Delicate Dance
While the world teeters on the brink of an oil fueled chaos there's a fragile understanding. Both sides seem hesitant to target energy infrastructure. A temporary truce in a world of madness. Still this could be the 'the blind leading the blind'. I'll keep a close watch. Gotham and the world depends on it. Because I'm Batman.
