The Triforce of Lower Prices… For Now
Greetings citizens of Hyrule and beyond! Princess Zelda here reporting live from… well wherever I happen to be this week. Let's just say Ganon keeps me on my toes. Anyway I bring tidings of… slightly less doom and gloom! Apparently this thing called 'inflation' has decided to take a breather. Prices on things like 'groceries' and 'gasoline' (do we even have those in Hyrule?) are down. Even those second hand Eponas are getting cheaper!
Ganon's Got Nothing on These Tariffs!
But before we start celebrating with a hearty bowl of Monster Stew there's a 'but' bigger than a Hinox. Economists are warning about the dreaded 'tariffs.' Apparently some guy named Trump decided to tax imports which will make everything more expensive. Honestly sounds like something Ganon would do! As Mark Zandi from Moody's put it 'It felt like we could just about declare victory on putting inflation back in the bottle and it's back out again.' Back in the bottle? More like straight into a cucco coop of chaos!
Rupees Don't Grow on Trees and Neither Do Imports!
These 'tariffs' are basically taxes on stuff coming from other countries. U.S. companies pay them and then they pass the cost onto… you guessed it US. The average household could be out $2,800! That's enough Rupees to buy a lifetime supply of arrows which let’s be honest Link needs about every Tuesday. It seems that these tariffs will hit us sooner or later. Companies will want to make money from us so they will raise the prices on items to make up for the tariffs.
The CPI: A Mysterious Gauge
There's this thing called the 'Consumer Price Index,' or CPI. I think it’s some sort of Sheikah tech for measuring how expensive things are getting. Experts believe tariffs could make the CPI jump by 1% in just a few months! Stephen Brown from Capital Economics says even with some trade deals inflation will still rise. It’s like trying to catch a greased Chuchu – frustrating and ultimately pointless! He mentions that core CPI inflation will rise to 3.5% by the end of 2025... which is so far away!
Hidden Signs of Tariff Troubles
Apparently some economists think they're already seeing the effects of these tariffs in the CPI. Prices for 'audio equipment' and 'photographic equipment' have jumped recently. Are people suddenly obsessed with taking selfies with Lynels? But thankfully gasoline prices are down. I do not even need to use gasoline but maybe this will help Link traverse Hyrule field on a horse since he is always running out of stamina.
A Princess's Plea
So what does this all mean? Well it seems like we're not out of the woods yet. Inflation is like a Moblin – it might look like it's down for the count but it always comes back swinging. Keep a close eye on your Rupees Hyrule. And maybe just maybe we can convince Trump to rethink these tariffs before they unleash another economic Calamity upon us. After all as my father always said 'The future is not fixed. You can change it if you want to.' Now if you'll excuse me I have a Ganon to vanquish… again. Wish me luck!
