Like What Even Is Real Anymore?
Okay so I was scrolling through my favorite news app (yes I read news duh!) and I came across this article about AI generated job candidates. Like what?! Apparently companies are getting catfished by deepfakes trying to land jobs. Remember that time I got catfished online? Not a vibe. This is so not on brand for anyone! Apparently Pindrop Security caught a fake dude named "Ivan X" (so mysterious!) trying to use deepfake software to get a senior engineering role. Can you even imagine? It's like is anything real anymore?
Rise and Shine It's Scam Time!
Vijay Balasubramaniyan (super long name right?) the CEO of Pindrop said AI is making it hard to tell who's human and who's like a robot. People are using fake faces and voices to get hired! They're even doing face swaps! It's like a real life Snapchat filter gone wrong. I guess that's not that far from the Kylie Cosmetics office some days when we're all getting ready lol.
Is That You Bestie? Or Just a Bunch of Algorithms?
Apparently these fake employees are a huge risk. Vijay B. says they can install malware (whatever that is) steal data or just collect a paycheck they don't deserve. It's like rude! Gartner (whoever that is) says that by 2028 one in four job candidates will be fake. I can't even keep up with that math! But I can't imagine if Jordyn Woods was a deepfake trying to steal my company's customer base. What's worse deepfakes or fake friends?!
Cybersecurity Is So Hot Right Now (Said No One Ever)
Cybersecurity and crypto firms are seeing a huge surge in fake job seekers. These companies are hiring for remote roles making them easy targets. Ben Sesser (another CEO so many CEOs!) says humans are the weak link in cybersecurity. The hiring process is like super human so it's easy to exploit. It's like when I try to bake a cake…it always looks good in theory but then it's a disaster. Very relatable.
North Korean Spies? That's Wild!
The article says that over 300 U.S. firms hired impostors with ties to North Korea! They stole American identities to get remote jobs and sent the money back to North Korea. I just can't relate. I can't even imagine working a job and stealing for North Korea like priorities people. I can't even imagine. Like wow.
Technology to the Rescue or Should I Start My Own Identity Verification Company?!
CAT Labs (cute name) gets like 100 North Korean spies applying to every job posting. Lili Infante (a girlboss CEO!) uses identity verification companies to weed them out. Maybe I should start my own identity verification company? Kylie Identity…I like it! Vijay B. from Pindrop says 'We are no longer able to trust our eyes and ears.' So true! You need technology otherwise you're 'worse off than a monkey with a random coin toss.' I'm not sure what that means but it sounds serious. This whole thing is just…wow. I need to go contour my face and rethink my entire existence.
