Sanctions Ahoy! Another Package Brews!

Good news everyone! It seems those blithering Europeans are at it again concocting their 17th package of sanctions against Russia. Why 17? Why not Zoidberg? Ahem anyway apparently they're targeting Russia's shadow oil tanker fleet – the very lifeblood of their economy. It's like cutting off their… uh… vital energon supply! And just like my inventions I give it 50/50 chance of working!

Hungary: The Wildcard in the Deck

Oh but hold on to your hats! Hungary that pesky nation with a penchant for playing the contrarian might throw a wrench into the whole operation. Their spokesperson claims sanctions 'do not work.' 'Sanctions? What are those? Some sort of delicious new space snail?' – that's what I imagine they're thinking. Apparently as long as their precious energy sources aren't touched they'll play ball. But remember folks Hungary's unpredictability is right up there with the stock market! Sweet Zombie Jesus!

Veto Proofing the Future!?

The Financial Times (a paper I sometimes use to wrap my leftover Slurm) reports that the EU is considering ways to bypass Hungary's potential veto. They're talking about moving BILLIONS in frozen Russian assets to a different legal basis. It's like trying to convince Bender to give up alcohol. Near impossible but worth a shot I suppose. Perhaps they can invent a new 'legal basis'… using SCIENCE!

Zelenskyy and Putin… A Meeting of the Minds?

Remarkably there's talk of a potential meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin. Hmm could this be a chance for peace? Or just another opportunity for Putin to spout off some more nonsense? I'm not sure but I give it a 50/50 chance of working. But remember when I reach for the stars I am likely to fall on my face.

Beyond the 17th: Sanctions Galore!

The EU isn't stopping at 17! They're already brainstorming more sanctions if Russia doesn't shape up. It's like trying to teach Zoidberg manners – an endless frustrating task. They're trying to force a ceasefire. If only global politics could be solved with a good invention like the Smell O Scope!
