A Disturbance in the Force I Sense

Hmm troubled is Norway yes. A great fortune they have. Invest it wisely they must. But pressure they face to invest in weapons of war. Illogical some say the ban is. Since the early 2000s certain defense firms avoided they have. Nuclear weapons cluster munitions landmines tobacco these bring only suffering. A path to the dark side these are. But times change and so must we. Or must we?

The Conservative Awakens!

The center right Conservatives speak they do! Lift the ban they urge. Russia's actions in Ukraine a catalyst. China's rearming a concern. "A serious security crisis we face," says Tina Bru. Invest in Western defense she says for our security and our allies. Change the ethical framework she asks. Vital to the West's security some companies are hmm? A slippery slope this is.

A Finance Ministry's Silence A Trap?

A response the finance ministry declines. A question from parliament they await. British defense contractor BAE Systems already excluded. Lockheed Martin Corp too. Decisions decisions. Invest in weapons or not? Difficult this choice is. "Illogical," says Bru that Norway buys weapons from companies they cannot invest in. Hypocrisy this sounds like hmm?

The Labour Party's Trials

The Labour Party governs alone they do. Until new elections that is. Infighting earlier this year. EU energy directives the cause. A member of NATO Norway is. But not the EU. A complex web this is. Like a Kashyyyk spiderweb tangled it becomes.

Soaring Stocks Ethical Dilemmas

Defense stocks rising high they are! Spending increases profits soar. Geopolitical risk the reason. ESG funds once wary now tempted. Comfortable with defense companies some become. A shift in perspective this is. But remember "Fear is the path to the dark side…fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering."

Hypocritical is it?

The wealth fund grows it does! Established in the 1990s it was. Invest in over 8,650 companies in over 60 countries. Hans Andreas Limi speaks his mind. Remove the nuclear weapons ban he suggests. "Hypocritical," he calls it. Ida Kassa Johannesen warns against political pressure. Fiduciary duties the ministry has. Best interests of Norway they must consider. The Force they must feel.
