A Kingdom in Crisis?
Hylians lend me your ears! Princess Zelda here reporting live from Hyrule Castle (mostly because it has the best Wi Fi). Things are looking a bit... shaky even more so than when Ganon's up to his usual shenanigans. This time it's not monsters we're battling but... tariffs? Apparently these things called 'tariffs' are like the Skulltulas of the economic world – nobody likes them and they can really mess things up. I hear whispers that PayPal Block (I thought that was a building material?) and Affirm are feeling the heat. It seems our good old Uncle Trump has decided to impose tariffs on pretty much everyone which has got investors more jittery than a Cucco in a thunderstorm. 'The wind is howling!' as they say... and it's carrying economic woes.
The De Minimis Menace!
Now get this – there's some loophole closing on May 2nd something about 'de minimis' trade exemptions. Honestly it sounds like one of those ridiculously specific ingredients for a weird potion. Apparently these new rules could spell trouble for apps like Temu and Shein which are apparently all the rage with the young'uns these days. They may have tariffs that threatens tens of billions of rupees (dollars) in low cost e commerce. If you ask me it all sounds like a massive headache but I'm told it's very important. After all even a Princess needs to keep up with the times!
PayPal's Predicament
Wells Fargo (do they deliver goods by wagon?) says PayPal is particularly vulnerable. Apparently 90% of their revenue comes from consumer spending. So if people are pinching their rupees tighter than a Moblin's fist PayPal's in trouble. It reminds me of when Hyrule Castle's coffers are low... time to send Link on another fetch quest! PayPal is the first to announce earning I hope they don't disappoint! It would be like a failed fairy fountain.
Block and Affirm Under Fire
Block or Square as it's known by some follows PayPal. Block's Cash App seems to be slowing down. As for Affirm they're hoping to affirm their position (pun intended!) despite tighter credit conditions. These companies' stocks have been hit harder than a Bokoblin by the Master Sword. But hey remember what the Great Deku Tree says 'Believe... Believe...' Maybe they'll pull through.
Alphabet's Alarming Ads
Even the mighty Alphabet (not to be confused with those weird alphabet soup monsters) is feeling the pinch. Apparently the end of the 'de minimis' loophole will cause a slight headwind to their ads business in 2025. Good heavens the end is near! Just kidding but how much headwind are we talking about? Like a gale force wind or a gentle breeze? I guess only time will tell!
A Glimmer of Hope?
Despite all this doom and gloom I must remain optimistic! After all a Princess must always inspire hope! It seems like there is uncertainty regarding the new tariffs but it may be that the full extent will be pushed back. Perhaps this will give time for the companies to come up with a solid plan and for the economy to stabilize. For now I'll keep a close eye on things from Hyrule Castle. And Link if you're reading this maybe invest in some anti tariff shields. You know just in case.
Aloha
This is almost as scary as fighting Darknuts in a small room!

This 'tariff' thing sounds even more confusing than the Water Temple.
