A Croft in Time Saves Nine… Billion Dollars!
Right then darlings! Seems our esteemed senators have been playing a bit of a game with the clean energy sector. A sneaky tax on solar and wind projects – targeting those using components from 'foreign entities of concern' (read: China) – was slipped into their 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act.' Honestly you'd think they were raiding an ancient tomb with that level of subterfuge! Thankfully the American Clean Power Association and Solar Energy Industries Association raised a right fuss bless their cotton socks. They managed to get the tax removed from the Senate legislation saving the industry a whopping $7 billion! Now that's what I call a close shave. I've had less trouble navigating booby trapped pyramids.
NextEra Energy: Fortune Favors the Bold
Like a phoenix from the ashes clean energy stocks soared! NextEra Energy the big kahuna of renewables in the U.S. saw its shares jump nearly 3%. Seems they're proving that 'the future is green,' and people are starting to believe it. AES another key player also enjoyed a boost. It's a veritable treasure hunt for investors wouldn't you say? But remember folks fortune favors the bold... and those who do their research!
The ETF Effect: TAN tastic News!
Even the Invesco Solar ETF (TAN) was feeling the love climbing about 4%. The iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (ICLN) also joined the party. Talk about a chain reaction! First Solar however seemed a bit more grounded with shares slipping slightly. I suppose even solar power has its cloudy days.
Sun's Out Guns Out (and Stocks Up!)
Sun tracker manufacturers Array Technologies and Nextracker practically cartwheeled with joy jumping more than 11% and 5% respectively. Residential solar installer Sunrun rose 9% like a phoenix from the ashes while inverter manufacturers SolarEdge and Enphase were up about 8% and 4% respectively. It appears sunshine is indeed good for business... and for shareholder wallets.
The Shadows Remain: A Warning from the SEIA
Hold your horses darlings! While the removal of the tax is a win the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) isn't popping champagne just yet. CEO Abigail Ross Hopper warned that the improvements are 'limited' and the legislation is still potentially harmful. "If this bill becomes law families will face higher electric bills factories will shut down Americans will lose their jobs and our electric grid will grow weaker." That's a grim prospect and I must admit it makes me want to sharpen my pistols. We can't become complacent now. The fight for renewable energy is far from over.
What's Next? Adventure Continues...
The megabill is now heading to the House of Representatives where lawmakers will chew it over like a pack of particularly grumpy crocodiles. Let's hope they have more sense than to throw away progress on clean energy. The future of our planet depends on it! As I always say 'I make my own luck,' and it's time we all did the same. Onward to the next adventure!
