Washington's Got a Fever
They drew first blood not me! But this time it's Washington drawing first blood on those bureaucratic nightmares. This Trump fella he's got an order out – like a heat seeking missile aimed right at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Eighteen months they got to decide on these new nuclear plant applications. Eighteen months! Back in my day we moved faster than that clearing a jungle. This Strazik fella from GE Vernova he seems to think it might actually get some small modular reactors (SMRs) built by 2027. Maybe just maybe we can finally stop building these mega plants that cost more than a small war.
SMRs: The Future of Boom?
These SMRs… they're like a Green Beret squad compared to those lumbering Vogtle behemoths. Smaller faster built on site with pre made parts. No more billion dollar cost overruns no more endless delays. Developers like GE Vernova think they’ll make nuclear power cheap. Cheap enough for everyone to have power for their house not just the rich fellas. That's what I call progress. This could be a turning point a chance to actually build something right for once.
Canadian Bacon and Oak Ridge Promises
First blood in Canada. GE Vernova already got the green light to build one of these SMRs in Ontario. First one in the West they say. And the Tennessee Valley Authority wants one in Oak Ridge. Seems like folks are starting to wake up. Like my old friend Trautman used to say 'to survive a war you gotta become war'. Well to survive the energy crisis you gotta become nuclear.
Show Me the Money!
Strazik says customers are lining up ready to pay a premium for nuclear. Why? Because it doesn't pump out the carbon dioxide. Seems the world's finally catching on that clean energy ain't cheap but it's worth it. This ain't about blowing things up this is about building something that lasts.
Gas Guzzlers Still Roaring
Don't get me wrong GE Vernova’s still making bank off those natural gas turbines. Electricity demand's booming and they're cashing in. Their stock is up nearly 48% this year. But hey even a Green Beret needs a good jeep. Gotta fuel the future somehow right?
Nothing is Over!
This is it. It is not over. This whole nuclear thing it's not finished. If these SMRs can deliver on their promise if we can cut through the red tape we might just have a shot at a cleaner brighter future. I've seen enough darkness in my life. It’s time for some light.
