OMG What's Happening to GM?
Okay besties so like GM is going through it right now. Apparently they slayed their first quarter earnings but now they're like totally rethinking their 2025 plans because of potential cost increases and something called 'industry uncertainty' thanks to well you know who. Basically Trump's tariffs are throwing a wrench in their perfectly contoured plans. It's giving me major lip kit launch vibes – you know when things are supposed to be flawless but then like something unexpected happens and you just have to like pivot.
Numbers Numbers Everywhere (But Make It Fashion)
So the numbers. They beat expectations with earnings per share at $2.78 (vs. $2.74 expected) and revenue at $44.02 billion (vs. $43.05 billion). But the future? Shady. Their 2025 guidance which didn't factor in these tariff dramas is now like totally up in the air. I feel like this is how I feel when I have a new makeup palette but I am not sure of the right look to go for.
Tariffs: The Unexpected Villain
Apparently these tariffs could be HUGE. GM's CFO Paul Jacobson (who BTW sounds like a character from a soap opera) said they're reassessing everything and will let us know when they have “greater clarity.” Translation: they're freaking out a little. And can you blame them? It's like planning a birthday party and then finding out your venue is booked the day before.
Buybacks on Hold: This Is NOT the Moment
To add to the drama GM is pausing stock buybacks. It's like they're saying "Okay everyone chill. We need to see what's going on before we spend any more coins." Honestly relatable. I sometimes freeze my spending when I feel things are getting hectic like before MET Gala or when I am rebranding my business. Smart move GM. Smart move.
Trump's Michigan Visit: A Plot Twist?
So Trump is visiting Michigan which is like where all the GM action is. There's talk that he might soften the tariffs which would be HUGE. Maybe he realized he needs to chill and let GM do its thing. It's giving me hope that maybe this whole situation won't be a total disaster. Like maybe there's still a chance for a happy ending – or at least a decent Instagram story.
No Regrets Adjustments: The Hustle Is Real
GM is making some "no regrets" moves like boosting pickup truck production and pausing EV van production. They're hustling besties! It's like when I see a new trend and I'm like "Okay gotta adapt and slay!" Honestly I am thinking to invest in their shares! You know they are going through a lot and I know what that feels like I am sure they will work through this.

Is this going to affect car prices? I need a new ride!
