Toxic Tariffs? Not So Sure Baby One More Time...
Okay so like I'm Britney B*tch! And I've been hearing all about this whole tariff drama with the pharmaceutical industry. Eli Lilly's CEO Dave Ricks he's been talking to CNBC which is like adulting 101 right? He's saying they can help with national security if we're worried about where our essential medicines are coming from. But then he's all "Do I think tariffs are the answer to that? I'm not so sure personally." Like make up your mind Dave! Are we 'Stronger' with tariffs or not? It's giving me 'Crazy' vibes. Seriously.
Gimme More Manufacturing (In the USA!)
So the tea is that Trump is thinking about slapping tariffs on imported drugs to like boost manufacturing here in the States. And guess what? It's kinda working! Eli Lilly is dropping like $27 BILLION to build four new sites here! Werk! Dave Ricks is like 'Maybe we don't even need the tariffs now because the THREAT of them is already bringing jobs back.' It's like when my music videos threaten to break the internet – sometimes just the *idea* of it is enough you know?
Not a Girl Not Yet a Tariff Expert...
But here's the thing these tariffs might hit generic drugs the hardest and those are like the *essential* drugs that keep everyone healthy even hospitals! Some experts are saying that tariffs could make generic drug companies leave the US which would be a total 'Oops!... I Did It Again' moment for the healthcare system. I can relate. I mean I thought wearing a snake would be a great idea but...
My Prerogative (Is Lower Taxes!)
Dave Ricks is also saying he wants lower taxes! He wants a sweet 15% tax rate for manufacturing in the US. He says that lower taxes would bring companies back from places like Ireland and Singapore which are like the 'Oops!... I Did It Again' destinations for drug manufacturing. He said that lower taxes would bring back companies from "low tax islands" and that this "can come back if there's an economic incentive." It's all about the Benjamins baby! #TaxTheRich #JustKidding...Maybe. I just want to go back to 2002.
Piece of Me (Wants a Stable Supply Chain)
The bottom line is everyone wants a stable supply of medicine. The Trump administration is thinking about initiating tariffs on pharmaceuticals to deal with national security concerns. We need those drugs for hospitals and emergencies. 'Bring that capacity back so in case of emergency we have the stock we have the supply – that's a valid thing,' said Ricks in his interview with CNBC. Basically we need a 'Piece of Me' to go around for everyone when they are sick.
Lucky (We Have Options)
So will tariffs save the day? Maybe. Will lower taxes lure companies back? Possibly. Will I ever find a decent pair of jeans that fit right? The world may never know. But one thing's for sure: the pharmaceutical industry is ready to talk and hopefully we can all figure out a solution that keeps us healthy happy and dancing! Because at the end of the day that's all that really matters right? Now if you'll excuse me I have a date with a unicorn and a box of glitter. Peace out!

Tariffs? Taxes? Sounds like 'Toxic' economics to me!
