Gotham Sized Problems for Nissan
Ivan Espinosa the new CEO of Nissan sounds like he's facing a Joker level crisis. Declining sales EV transition global competition... it's like Gotham City on wheels. He says their short term focus is to 'fix ourselves.' Reminds me of when I look in the mirror after a run in with Poison Ivy. Always a mess.
The Espinosa Gamble: A 'Robust' Plan?
Espinosa claims the plan is 'enough and robust.' 'Enough'? 'Robust'? Those are fighting words in Gotham. I've heard Two Face make bolder promises. But the guy just took over in April maybe he's got a trick up his sleeve like I always do. Still I'm watching. Always watching. 'It's not who I am underneath but what I do that defines me.' And what Nissan *does* is what matters.
Trump's Steel Tariffs: The Penguin's Latest Scheme?
Ah tariffs. Even global trade wars feel like a Gotham power play sometimes. Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs are apparently making things worse for Nissan. Sounds like something the Penguin would dream up to corner the umbrella market. This city...this world...needs a hero.
Cutting Deep: 11,000 Jobs and 7 Plants Gone
Eleven thousand jobs cut? Seven plants shut down? That's not just a restructuring; that's a bloodbath! I've seen fewer casualties after a Bane rampage. A 3% drop in sales is expected. Someone clearly didn't learn the 'always be prepared' lesson. 'Why do we fall Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.' But sometimes you need more than just a bat rope.
Honda Tie Up: A Bat Signal Ignored?
They almost tied up with Honda to become the world's third largest automaker. Almost. 'Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.' Talks broke down. Missed opportunities are just as deadly as active threats. Especially in this city or the global auto market I suppose.
Re Sizing Nissan: From Lofty Goals to Grounded Reality
Nissan had lofty goals targeting 8 million cars per year. They peaked at 5.6 million and are now at 3.3 million. That's a crash landing. Now they're 're sizing' and cutting costs. Sounds like they're finally realizing you can't just throw money at a problem and expect it to disappear. Which incidentally is what I tell Bruce Wayne *all* the time. And it still is never enough with the bloody Bat gadgets. Nissan's stock is down 24% this year. I've had better days fighting the Riddler.
