Life in Plastic (and Steel) It's Fantastic...Or Is It?
Hi Dreamhouse Dwellers! Barbie here reporting live from the front lines of the *real* world – and let me tell you it's not all pink convertibles and beach days. I've been following the latest news about Ford and it seems even they're facing some serious challenges! Apparently these 'tariffs' that former President Trump imposed are causing a major 'hair don't' for the company. They've even had to suspend their financial outlook for 2025! As I always say "Think positively!" ...but also maybe buckle up?
Tariff Troubles: When 'Come On Let's Go Party' Turns into 'Come On Let's Get This Budget Sorted'
Ford is estimating a whopping $2.5 billion hit this year because of these tariffs. That's a lot of Dreamhouses people! They're hoping to offset some of the damage but it's a bit like trying to convince Ken to wear something other than a matching denim outfit – challenging to say the least. The article mentioned 'industrywide supply chain disruption.' Okay but I think I got that is like when Midge runs out of glitter glue right before the big craft fair. Disaster!
GM vs. Ford: A Real Life Dreamhouse Face Off?
Now things get interesting! General Motors (GM) is also feeling the tariff pinch but apparently they're expecting an even *bigger* wallop to the face. It seems Ford is importing fewer vehicles than GM so they're dodging some of the biggest potholes. It's like when I have to choose between a vintage Corvette and a limited edition Camper Van for my date with Ken but he says to pick only one then I pick the Camper Van and he has to take the bus. Decisions decisions!
Ford's 'Blue' Period: Not as Artsy as You'd Think
Ford is trying to 'turnaround' with their Ford+ plan and their CFO Sherry House says things are working. I'm all for a good makeover montage! But their traditional 'Blue' operations saw a huge drop in earnings. Their "Pro" commercial business also took a hit! "Model e" is their electric vehicle division and those losses have gotten smaller. Progress! I think I still like my gasoline powered pink convertible though.
Making Moves: Less China More...Smart?
To combat these tariff woes Ford is apparently making some logistical changes like stopping U.S. exports to China and tweaking their imports from China. They say these moves helped them reduce the tariff impact in the first quarter. Smart move Ford! It's like when I realized I could repurpose my old roller skates as decorations for my beach house. Resourceful *and* stylish!
Can Ford Still Afford Ken's Malibu Dream Car?
So what does all this mean? Well it seems like Ford is hitting a few bumps in the road thanks to these tariffs. But they're trying to navigate the situation with style and grace – just like Barbie would! Hopefully they can keep those pink convertibles (and Ken's various vehicles) rolling off the assembly line. As I always say "We girls can do anything...even navigate a tariff crisis!" Stay tuned for more updates Dreamhouse dwellers! And remember "Life in plastic it's fantastic!"... tariffs or no tariffs!

My dad always drove Fords. I hope they can weather this storm.
