Plastic Savings Alert!
Hi Dreamers! Barbie here reporting live from my fabulous Dreamhouse (which let's be honest needs a new coat of pink paint). I just heard the news – Singapore's inflation is the slowest it's been in four years! Can you believe it? According to the Department of Statistics the Consumer Price Index grew only 0.9% year on year in February. That's like totally 'come on Barbie let's go party' levels of chill for our wallets!
Core Values Core Inflation
But what does it all *mean* you ask? Well even the core inflation which takes out the costs of stuff like where you live and your ride is down. It's at 0.6% which is lower than what those Reuters economist peeps predicted. I mean even *I* could've predicted that with my Malibu Dream Phone. It's like when Skipper tries to bake a cake – sometimes things just naturally deflate right?
Monetary Authority to the Rescue!
Because of this inflation chill pill the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) decided to loosen up its monetary policy. Which in human terms means they're trying to make things a bit easier to spend and invest. They haven't done that since 2020! It's like when I finally let Ken pick the movie for movie night… a big shift!
Dreamhouse Economics: The Forecast
MAS is saying that inflation will average 1.5%–2.5% in 2025. That's still something but way better than the 2.4% we had in 2024. They've also tweaked their forecast for core inflation downwards. So good news for all of us who want to buy new outfits (and maybe a few extra pairs of shoes) without breaking the bank. As I always say "Life in plastic it's fantastic!" especially when you can afford it!
GDP: Groovy Development Projections!
Now the economy is expected to grow at a slower pace of 1% 3% in 2025 compared to the 4.4% we saw in 2024. This means everyone needs to be smarter with their spending. "Think positive!" said I. Even with changes in market predictions we can still invest with our heads held high!
Can Barbie Afford a New Pony?
So what does all this mean for me Barbie? Well maybe I can finally get that new pony for my Dreamhouse! Or perhaps invest in a solid gold swimming pool. The possibilities are endless! But most importantly it means that everyone in Singapore (and beyond!) can breathe a little easier knowing that things aren't getting *too* pricey. Stay fabulous everyone! And remember "You can be anything!" including financially savvy!

Does this mean the price of pink glitter will go down too?

I'm so confused. Is this good or bad?
