By Hera! Not Again!

Greetings mortals! Wonder Woman here reporting live from the front lines of... well economics apparently. I must say even battling Ares was less confusing than trying to understand these tariffs. Apparently some fellow named Trump has decided to shake things up with these 'tariffs'. You know those things that sound like a type of ancient torture device? These taxes are disrupting global supply chains which for those of you not fluent in economist speak means it's getting harder (and more expensive) to get your hands on everything from coat hangers to those shiny new gadgets you all seem so obsessed with.

From China to... Nowheresville?

Remember when everyone was fleeing China like it was Themyscira after a particularly bad Amazon potluck? Companies thought they were so clever diversifying to Vietnam and Taiwan. 'China Plus One,' they called it as if they'd discovered some brilliant strategic maneuver! But now these new tariffs are hitting those countries too. I can almost hear the CEOs weeping into their silk ties. One poor fellow from Honey Can Do International (who comes up with these names?!) is particularly distraught. He moved production to Vietnam only to be slapped with more tariffs. As he put it 'It is disappointing. It is saddening. It is frustrating,' I feel his pain but as my mother taught me: 'Hope is stronger than despair'.

The Professor Weighs In (Wisely!)

Apparently it's not just the CEOs who are pulling their hair out. Eswar Prasad a professor at Cornell University says the 'China Plus One' strategy has been 'severely undercut.' That's professor speak for 'it's a disaster!' He also points out that even countries like Vietnam and India who thought they were safe are now caught in the crossfire. The nerve of some people but I must say as I told Super Man once: 'I maybe fighting a war but this is my choice'.

Apple's Sour Apples?

Even the mighty Apple purveyor of all things shiny and expensive isn't immune. They've been making more products in India and Vietnam but now those imports are getting hit with hefty levies. You know I once tried to use an iPhone to contact Zeus. Let's just say the reception wasn't great. Perhaps they should have invested in a better signal tower instead of global domination. Oh well as I told Cheetah once: 'Everyone deserves a second chance even Apple'.

Tariff Tango: A Game of Chicken?

Some experts believe these tariffs are just a negotiating tactic a high stakes game of chicken between Trump and the rest of the world. Companies are playing a waiting game hoping things will calm down. As William Reinsch from the Center for Strategic and International Studies put it 'Companies will likely wait to see if it leads to reduced tariffs.' In other words everyone's holding their breath and hoping for the best. I would rather run toward danger because I know I can overcome it than to stand still because I am afraid but that's just me.

Reshoring? More Like Re Shoring Our Brains!

The idea behind these tariffs according to the Trump administration is to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. Some experts think that might actually happen at least in some industries. But moving entire supply chains is like trying to herd cats – a long expensive and often futile endeavor. Arthur Dong from Georgetown University points out that these investments can't be reversed overnight. So buckle up folks. It's going to be a bumpy ride. And remember even in the darkest of times there's always hope. Or at least there's always Amazon Prime. Though at this rate even that might become unaffordable. Maybe I need a new Lasso of Truth. One that can untangle this economic mess. Maybe I'll start with congress because as I once said to Ares: 'It is not right to take what is not given'.

Maybe we should all just go back to making our own clothes and furniture.

Is this going to affect my Amazon Prime subscription?
