I Have Spoken... About Layoffs?
A transmission came across my ship's comms – something about Amazon and 'efficiency gains' using AI. Sounds like a droid replacement program to me. CEO Andy Jassy he’s planning to thin the ranks of the corporate side claiming 'Generative AI' is changing the game. Reminds me of the time I tried to replace Kuiil with a protocol droid. Didn't end well. This is the way... of corporate restructuring I guess.
Mandalorian Math: Fewer People More Problems?
Jassy figures fewer folks will be needed for certain jobs. More people doing *other* jobs he says. Sounds like he's hiring Jawas. But here's the kicker: apparently almost half the employers in the U.S. are thinking about doing the same thanks to these bucket of bolts. It's like the droid army all over again only this time they're taking *our* jobs. I am good at this.
Tech Titans Take a Tumble: The Price of Beskar?
Amazon's not alone in this mess. Microsoft Google even Klarna – they're all trimming the fat thanks to AI. Klarna whacked 40% of their workforce! That’s like losing half your jetpack in a dogfight. Meanwhile Shopify's boss is making folks prove a droid *can't* do their job before they get hired. Sounds like he's been watching too many holovids on the Clone Wars. This is no place for a bounty hunter.
The Expert Speaks: This is the Way... It Hurts
Some consultant named Kate Lister thinks these layoffs might not be *all* the droids’ fault. She suspects that these companies are doing this to appease shareholders and investors. She raises a valid question and explains how companies would rather blame layoffs on AI rather than admit business is doing poorly. But the long term threat AI poses to jobs is 'inevitable'. Good thing my line of work will never be in jeopardy right? This is the way! Oh I almost forgot there's some advice according to the expert that blue collar workers are safe for now which means my armor will keep me in a job!
Skill Up or Ship Out: The New Mandalorian Creed?
Lister says we need to upgrade our skills. Administrative and customer service jobs are first on the chopping block apparently. Sounds like I need to learn how to charm a Hutt. But it's not all doom and gloom she figures AI could free us from busywork and burnout. Until we get our training there will be high unemployment! I have spoken...
Not There Yet: The Droids Still Need Work
Don't panic and join the Children of the Watch just yet. AI isn't ready to take over *everything*. It needs to 'get a lot better' before it starts replacing us all. But make no mistake it *will* hurt some folks. So gear up get trained and maybe learn how to rewire a protocol droid. Or better yet just stick to the Mandalorian code. That's what I always do and I have spoken.
