City of Brotherly Bots?
Alright alright settle down. Word on the street – and by 'street,' I mean the HoloNet – is that Waymo those bucket of bolts auto pilots are rolling into Philadelphia. Philly! They call it a 'National Treasure.' I've seen treasures. This ain't no Mandalorian armor but maybe there's beskar in the cheesesteaks. They’re bringing a 'limited fleet' with human meatbags behind the wheel. Always with the training wheels. This is the Way... to bore me.
Mapping the Mayhem: This is the Way...point
These Waymo fellas are saying they want to 'collect mapping data' and see how their 'autonomous technology' handles Philly’s chaos. Chaos is my middle name – though I don't usually tell people that. Figured I'd share with you. Anyway they'll be cruising through everywhere from 'North Central to Eastwick.' Sounds like a good hunting ground if you ask me. But this ain't about bounties; it's about Waymo seeing if they can turn a profit. Credits are a Mandalorian's best friend and apparently a robot’s too.
New York New York: The City That Never Sleeps... Unless Your Car Does
Before Philly they were eyeing New York trying to get permission to roll around Manhattan. Apparently the law ain't too keen on driverless droids yet. Understandable. I trust my disintegrator rifle more than a computer program and that says a lot. But these guys are persistent. I'll give 'em that. Persistance is very important and it is the Way.
Waymo One: 250,000 Paid Trips – And Counting?
They claim Waymo One’s already hauling folks around in places like Phoenix San Francisco Los Angeles and Austin. And they're itching to hit up Atlanta Miami and Washington D.C. by 2026. All these credits they're raking in but they're still losing money? Sounds like my kind of operation! Just kidding... mostly.
The Price of Progress: Credits vs. Chaos
Alphabet's feeling the heat to make these fancy AI gizmos pay off. All that spending on infrastructure – it adds up quicker than a Gamorrean's bar tab. Their 'Other Bets' segment the one with Waymo brought in some credits but lost a pile more. Reminds me of a bad hand of Sabacc. These companies better learn to play it smart. I have spoken.
Robotaxis? I Have Spoken.
So there you have it. Waymo's rolling the dice in Philly. Will their self driving contraptions navigate the city's quirks or will they end up as scrap metal? Only time will tell. I got a feeling though that Grogu would rather ride shotgun in the Razor Crest. This is the Way.
