Shipping Stocks? Seriously?
Okay Swifties you know I'm usually all about the music industry cats and maybe the occasional breakup song. But lately I've been dipping my toes into the… *dun dun dun*… stock market! And not just any stocks darling. We're talking *shipping* stocks. Yes you heard me right. Apparently what happens with global trade affects my bank account which let's be honest funds my cat's lavish lifestyle. Ever since that whole Scooter Braun fiasco I've been trying to take control of everything even the high seas of global commerce! Like I said in Miss Americana "I need to be on the right side of the narrative."
Blame It On Trump
So here's the tea: This Danish shipping giant called Maersk—sounds like a villain in a Bond movie right?—saw its stock prices do a little 'Shake It Off' dance after President Trump decided to chill out (temporarily!) on some tariffs. Apparently he hit pause on some tariff hikes for some countries but not for China. Honestly it's giving me 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' vibes but with international trade agreements instead of ex boyfriends.
Maersk's Moment of Truth
Maersk bless their little corporate hearts even released a statement saying that Trump's original tariff plan was "significant" and "not good" for the global economy. Can you imagine my PR team letting me say that? Anyway it seems like everyone's playing a waiting game trying to figure out who's going to negotiate impose counter tariffs or just throw a full blown economic tantrum. The drama! It's better than any reality TV show except maybe 'The Real Housewives of Wall Street.'
Hapag Lloyd? More Like Happy Lloyd!
And it wasn't just Maersk having a good day! This German company Hapag Lloyd was also up 7%! Now I don't know about you but I love a happy ending. Or at least a temporary reprieve from economic doom. I'm starting to think I should write a song about the shipping industry. Maybe something catchy like 'Ocean's Eleven…Percent Gain!'
The Never Ending Trade War
Of course this whole trade war saga between the U.S. and China is still a major concern. It's like the 'Bad Blood' feud that just won't die! Some experts are saying that even with this tariff pause the tension is going to linger for a while. Investors are still wary which let's face it is understandable. Who wants to invest when the world economy feels like it's about to go 'Teardrops On My Guitar'?
Karma Is The Guy On The...Shipping Container?
One analyst said that Trump backing down is a 'big positive for markets'. I'm over here thinking 'Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me!' If this trade truce means my stocks do well then maybe just maybe I'll consider writing a song about the global economy. But only if it involves a glittery microphone and a catchy beat. Stay tuned Swifties! And remember 'Long live the walls we crashed through'…even if those walls are made of tariffs.

She's so relatable, even when talking about tariffs.
