Another Day Another Betrayal (Allegedly!)
Okay Swifties gather 'round. You know I've had my fair share of 'Bad Blood' moments and this DeepSeek situation in South Korea? Well let's just say it's giving me major 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' vibes. Apparently this AI startup was playing games with people's data and honey that's a red flag bigger than the one I waved in the 'Red' music video.
Data Data Everywhere But Not a Byte to Share!
So the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) – sounds like a serious squad right? – found out that DeepSeek was like secretly sending user data to China and the U.S. without even asking! Can you imagine? It's like someone taking your diary and posting it on Tumblr. NOT okay! They were transferring information from user written AI prompts as well as device network and app information to a Chinese cloud service platform named Beijing Volcano Engine Technology Co.
ByteDance? More Like Byte My Dust!
And guess who's in the mix? ByteDance! You know the TikTok folks. Now the PIPC is saying that Beijing Volcano Engine Technology is a separate entity and has no relation to ByteDance (according to a Google translation). Sounds shady doesn't it? Like when your ex says 'Oh she's just a friend!' We all know how that story ends.
Security? More Like Insecurity!
DeepSeek claims they were using Beijing Volcano Engine Technology to improve security and user experience but then they like blocked the transfer of AI prompt information from April 10. If you have nothing to hide then why block it? If it was a snake it would have bit me. Honestly I’m just trying to shake it off.
A Corrective Recommendation and a Whole Lotta Side Eye
The PIPC issued a 'corrective recommendation,' which sounds a lot like a polite way of saying 'Clean up your act!' They want DeepSeek to destroy all that improperly transferred data and set up proper legal protocols. Basically they need to learn how to 'Speak Now' when it comes to data privacy. Oh and they removed DeepSeek from local app stores. Ouch. That's gotta sting.
Banned Across the Globe? I Knew You Were Trouble!
Turns out South Korea isn't the only one side eyeing DeepSeek. Government agencies in Taiwan Australia and the U.S. have reportedly banned employees from using it on work devices. It's like the whole world is singing 'Look What You Made Me Do' to DeepSeek. I wonder if they are Enchanted by me?

This DeepSeek situation is giving me 'Blank Space' vibes. Erase them!

Sounds like someone needs to write a song about this!

Data privacy is no joke! Glad South Korea is taking it seriously.

Is anyone really surprised? It's always the quiet ones...

This is exactly why I only trust cats with my secrets.

This is why I use a typewriter. No data to steal!
