Up Up and Away... From the Ordinary!

Greetings citizens of Earth! Clark Kent reporting for duty... or well for the Daily Planet. But today it feels more like I'm reporting for myself! Turns out even Superman is fascinated by those living the 'island dream.' Marc LeBlanc and Laura Robinson are doing just that flitting from the Maldives to Bali to Cambodia managing luxury resorts. I can relate to the whole 'living in different worlds' thing though I usually swap my Fortress of Solitude for Metropolis. Guess even I have my limits for a change of scenery! Seems these two are living the dream of many. Except apparently it involves more than just sunbathing and sipping Kryptonian cocktails... I mean uh regular cocktails!

One Island One Resort One REALLY Long Stay!

Marc mentions that working in a place like the Maldives is quite different than visiting it. You’re locked on an island surrounded by water and as he puts it “stuck there for long periods of time.” I feel him on a cellular level. Try being stuck in a phone booth every time duty calls! He likens the staff village to a summer camp. Sounds... intense! I mean even *I* need my personal space. Imagine having to share a laundry room with say Lex Luthor's entire henchman crew. Shudder. Plus cultural differences abound. In the Maldives managing a multicultural workforce can be…tricky but in Shinta Mani Wild things are easier as most of the staff is Cambodian. I guess having a diverse staff in the Fortress of Solitude would be a logistical nightmare too.

More Than Just Sunny Skies and Mai Tais!

Laura rightly points out that it’s not enough to keep guests happy. You’ve got to keep *100 employees* happy too! Which actually reminds me of keeping the peace at the Justice League headquarters! You know Aquaman keeps flooding the kitchen Batman complains about the thermostat Wonder Woman keeps rearranging the furniture…it's a circus! Marc sometimes DJs for them. Now that’s what I call team building! I mean I could offer them a guided tour of the solar system but I guess music works too.

Humidity vs. Saltwater: An Epic Showdown

While tourists are busy Instagramming sunsets the real MVPs are battling saltwater erosion and reclaiming forests. Saltwater creates maintenance issues and the Cambodian forest is always trying to reclaim itself. The resort sits on land the size of Central Park! “It's new for us. We're learning,” says Marc. If they ever need help with landscaping they know who to call. I’ve had *centuries* of experience moving mountains... literally!

Far From Family Close to the Heart (and Two Adopted Dogs!)

Let’s not forget the human element. Living in paradise means living far from family. I can certainly relate – my parents are… well let’s just say they’re not exactly local anymore. Luckily Marc and Laura make time to visit home. And to fill the void they adopted two dogs from the Cardamom Mountains forest! Awww! Even a superhero melts at the sight of a furry friend. Sometimes the best company is of the canine variety. They don’t judge you for wearing tights that’s for sure.

Double the Trouble Double the Success!

Working together as a couple in a remote location? Now *that's* a challenge that even I the Man of Steel wouldn’t want to face alone! But Marc and Laura make it work with separate offices and clearly defined roles. Apparently Laura is highly organized while Marc is on the creative side. Sounds like a match made in Krypton…or well wherever they found each other. Recruiters are always looking for managing couples. Who knew? I guess even paradise needs a good HR department. So if you’re feeling lonely find a partner pack your bags and become a resort managing power couple. Just watch out for the humidity and the saltwater! And if you need help with super speedy landscaping you know where to find me!
