Deuce! The World Stage is Set

Alright folks Novak here. Usually I'm serving up aces and talking about my latest Grand Slam chase but the news today is heavier than my pre match gluten free pasta. Apparently things have gone south in the Middle East faster than you can say 'Djokovic Slam!' Israel launched some serious airstrikes against Iran targeting their nuclear program. It's like a high stakes tennis match but instead of a trophy we're talking about… well much bigger things.

Advantage: Anxiety?

Now I'm not one to usually dabble in politics; I prefer discussing the subtle art of mental fortitude on the court. But when I see headlines about military officials and scientists being killed and threats of retaliation flying around like errant tennis balls even I start feeling the pressure. Ali Khamenei Iran's supreme leader is talking about a 'bitter and painful fate' for Israel. Sounds like someone needs a good meditation session and maybe a hug. Honestly sometimes I feel like telling world leaders to just grab a racquet and settle things on the court. Best of 5 anyone?

Fault! Global Impact Incoming

And the drama doesn't stop there! Israel's Defense Minister is warning about missile attacks and Netanyahu is telling people to prepare for extended stays in bomb shelters. Seriously? As if staying in a hotel room during a tournament isn't confinement enough! The article mentions that oil prices are up and stock futures are down. My stock portfolio feels like it just played a five set thriller and lost. I just hope this doesn't affect the price of avocados. A gluten free war free world with affordable avocados – that’s my kind of utopia.

The Trump Card

Of course the US is in the mix too. Trump says he prefers a nuclear agreement but also hints at potential Israeli strikes. It’s like watching a particularly confusing rally at Wimbledon. First it's love then its 40 then it’s deuce again and I’m left wondering what the heck is going on. Everyone seems to have a plan and none of them seem to involve inner peace and plant based diets.

Game Set (Potential) Match?

So where does this leave us? The UN Secretary General is urging restraint (good call buddy!) Malaysia is calling for pressure on Israel and Iran is launching drones. It’s a messier situation than my training schedule during the off season. I just hope that world leaders can take a page from my book: breathe focus and remember that even in the most intense moments finding your center is key. As I always say 'You have to believe in the long run that you are the best and that you are unbeatable.' But maybe that confidence should be reserved for the court eh?

Love All: A Plea for Peace

Ultimately I'm just a tennis player who believes in the power of the human spirit. I hope that everyone involved can find a way to de escalate and find a path to peace. The world needs fewer conflicts and more… well more tennis obviously! And remember folks stay healthy stay positive and maybe avoid checking your stock portfolio for a few days. Back to the court for me – at least there I know who my opponent is and the worst thing that can happen is a double fault. Peace out!
