Tariffs? Please. I Faced the Pistons' 'Jordan Rules'
So I heard about these 'tariffs' from the ex president Trump. Reminds me of the 'Jordan Rules' the Detroit Pistons used to throw at me. Double team triple team knock me on my butt – but guess what? I still found a way to score. These investors are smart. They're seeing that even with all the noise there are opportunities out there. US Treasuries getting a little soft? Time to look elsewhere. That's just basic offense people.
Mexico Brazil South Africa: These Aren't Just Vacation Spots Anymore
This Carol Lye from Brandywine is talking about Mexico Brazil and South Africa. Now I've played golf in some pretty exotic locations but this is about something else entirely. She's saying these countries' bonds are looking good. High yields currencies benefiting from the dollar's weakness... Sounds like a recipe for a winning quarter. You gotta know when to hold 'em know when to fold 'em and know when to invest in emerging markets apparently.
Diversification: Even MJ Had Endorsements
Mark Mobius is saying it's all about diversification. Look even I didn't just stick to basketball. Nike McDonald's Gatorade – a smart man knows how to spread his wings. These investors are doing the same moving away from the US market. Don't put all your eggs in one basket unless that basket is lined with championship rings.
Emerging Markets Holding Up? I Never Doubted Them
People thought emerging markets wouldn't hold up during a potential US recession? Please. I faced tougher odds every time I stepped on the court. Lye is right these countries have got buffers and space to offset growth concerns. Never underestimate the heart of a champion...or a developing economy.
Weak Dollar? Time to Shine Baby!
Tadas Gedminas says emerging market local currency fixed income does better when the dollar is down. Well a weaker dollar means cheaper Gatorade right? Everyone wins. The point is things change and you gotta be ready to adapt. Be like water my friends.
A New Lens? I've Always Seen the Opportunity
Paul Benson talks about investors seeing emerging markets through a 'new lens.' I've always seen opportunity whether it's a gap in the defense or a chance to invest in a growing market. Sure there are risks but no risk no reward. As Viktor Szabó from Aberdeen says it's still early days but the game is afoot. So are emerging markets ready to fly like Mike? Only time will tell. But I wouldn't bet against them.
