It's a Me Mario! Reporting From The Dark Ages!
It's a me Mario! And let me tell you things have been a little… dim here in Spain and Portugal. A big power outage hit and suddenly everyone's living like it's the Stone Age! Planes grounded trains stopped and even hospitals had to use backup generators. Mama mia! It's like Bowser pulled the plug on the whole peninsula! Officials are saying it's not a cyberattack but… who else could be behind such a sneaky move? Wahoo!
Uh Oh! Spaghetti O! What Happened?
The big blackout started around 10:33 G.M.T. and before you could say 'It's a me Mario!' the whole place went dark. Portugal's Prime Minister Luis Montenegro says there's "no indication" of a cyberattack. But c'mon that's what they WANT you to think! Maybe Bowser's hired some sneaky Goombas to mess with the power grid. It's a possible! As for Spain power started coming back on in some areas like the Basque country and Barcelona but it's still a bit of a mess. Hope they have enough mushrooms to keep the lights on!
Here We Go Again! Emergency Declared!
Spain's Interior Ministry declared a national emergency and governments are holding emergency meetings. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says they don't have "conclusive information" yet. Well maybe they should call Luigi! He's good at finding hidden stuff... like the source of this massive power cut! Madrid Andalusia and Extremadura have even asked for the central government to take over. It's getting serious folks. Yikes!
Mamma Mia! Chaos Ensues!
Hospitals are only seeing critical patients oil refineries shut down and even IKEA and Lidl closed their doors! Can you imagine no meatballs?! This is worse than when Bowser steals the princess! And get this: people were rushing to supermarkets to stock up on… what else? Spaghetti! Okay maybe I added that last part but it's what *I* would do. Portuguese police reported traffic lights out all over and trains were cancelled. One woman even said she might miss her daughter's birth because of the outage. That's rough! Oh Jeez!
Wahoo! A Little Light At The End Of The Tunnel?
Luckily things are slowly getting back to normal. Portugal's electricity distributor REN is working hard to restore power especially to hospitals and transport. They think it might have been a "very large oscillation in electrical voltage." Sounds like something that would happen if Bowser used a super powered lightning bolt! France even stepped in to help sending power to northern Spain. See? Even they know you can't keep the Mushroom Kingdom… I mean Iberian Peninsula down for long!
It's a Over? Not So Fast!
These kinds of blackouts are rare in Europe but they have happened before. In 2003 Italy went dark for 12 hours and in 2006 Germany caused outages across Europe. This time officials are still investigating. But mark my words I bet Bowser is laughing somewhere. He's always trying to cause trouble after all. Well if he is he's got another thing coming! Mario is on the case and I'll get to the bottom of this even if I have to jump through a million pipes! Let's a go!
