The Name's Bond Stock Bond

The market's been a real Casino Royale lately hasn't it? Volatile enough to make even Ernst Stavro Blofeld sweat. But fear not for I 007 have been briefed on a rather intriguing intelligence report courtesy of Bank of America. Apparently they've pinpointed a few stocks that are as cool as a dry martini 'shaken not stirred,' even when the market's doing its best impression of a Bond villain's temper tantrum. Stocks like DoorDash Netflix Spotify Flutter and Live Nation – names that might just save your portfolio from a Quantum of Solace level disaster.

DoorDash: A Delivery to Die For?

DoorDash you say? Seems even during a financial apocalypse people still crave the convenience of having someone else bring them their grub. Bank of America seems to think so dubbing it 'DASH as defensive.' Analyst Michael McGovern a chap who clearly understands the importance of a good takeaway notes that fears of menu inflation are overblown. Even if prices go up people order less per delivery apparently. A bit like ordering a vodka martini with a splash of… nothing. Still gets the job done. They did lower the price target but frankly who needs targets when you've got a license to thrill... and deliver?

Live Nation: The World Is Not Enough... Seats!

Live Nation. Now we're talking. Live music darling! According to analyst Peter Henderson live events are “relatively recession resilient”. You can’t stream that feeling can you? Plus they're expanding internationally getting artists more exposure (thanks to those pesky social media platforms) and raking in the sponsorship dosh. Henderson noted Live Nation's "unique value" of offering in person events as opposed to consumers attending virtual or digital experiences. The company are actively preventing ticket scalping and leakage. Seems like a solid bet even if Q might disapprove of the decibel levels. Up 26% over the last 12 months? Now that's music to my ears.

Spotify: Streaming My Way to Riches

Spotify. A subscription model they say is 'defensive.' Analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich sounds confident and I always trust a woman who knows her way around a good tune. Apparently their upcoming results are expected to be on par with expectations. The firm says the company's subscription model should hold up well in a recessionary environment or a downturn. And as the song goes 'We Have All the Time in the World' for them to increase prices launch new products and embrace programmatic advertising. Sounds like they're not just playing the music they're conducting the whole damn orchestra. If they can avoid hemorrhaging advertising revenue that is.

Flutter: A Gamble Worth Taking?

Flutter. Now gambling is a game I know well both on the roulette table and in the stock market. This firm seems to think Flutter is set to capture a large share of the US market. Its strong cash generation and large scale makes it one of the few companies able to to consolidate the market globally with an strong track record. The recent US listing should also drive more interest from retail investors which should support a rerating. Let's hope it pays off better than my last hand against Le Chiffre.

Netflix: The Spy Who Streamed Me

And finally Netflix. The undisputed king of streaming apparently. Bank of America considers it one of the more defensive names thanks to that sweet sweet subscription revenue. Unlikely to see a mass exodus even if the economy goes belly up although gross adds and advertising may be impacted. Even Bond needs to unwind with a good binge watch after a long day of foiling world domination. Just make sure you've got a good internet connection – can't have the signal dropping during the climax now can we?
