Shaken Not Stirred: The Opening Salvo

Right so another day another crisis. This time it's a fiery tango between Israel and Iran with missiles as the lead dancers. Apparently Tehran decided to spice things up with a fresh missile volley aimed at Tel Aviv Jerusalem and even Haifa – home to a rather crucial refinery I hear. Word is Israel isn't taking this lying down promising Tehran will 'pay the price.' Sounds like a Bond villain's threat doesn't it? 'No Mr. Bond I expect you to pay!' Only this time the world's watching wallets clutched tightly.

Iron Dome vs. Innovative Methods: A Tech Showdown

Now I've always admired a good gadget and Israel's Iron Dome is certainly a nifty piece of kit. However Tehran claims to have used 'innovative methods' to disrupt the system. Disrupting defense systems is child's play compared to what I usually do! Apparently these Iranian 'innovations' are turning the Iron Dome against itself. I trust Q Branch is taking notes. Meanwhile the IDF claims 'full aerial superiority over Tehran's skies'. Sounds a tad boastful even for a seasoned operative like myself.

Oil's Well That Ends...? Or Does It?

As always where there's smoke there's oil – and potentially a hefty bill at the pump. Investors are twitchier than a poker player facing a royal flush. They're worried about this conflict escalating and spilling over into the Middle East especially that pesky Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices are up naturally. It seems everyone's trying to hedge their bets and crude's a popular choice. Remember gentlemen always have an exit strategy – and a good tanker of fuel.

Gold Loses Its Luster: Safe Haven No More?

Oddly enough while oil's dancing gold seems to be taking a breather. The usual safe haven asset is down a bit like a Bond girl after a long car chase. Even Tel Aviv's share indices are up. Perhaps the markets think this is just a brief skirmish? Or maybe they've had one too many martinis shaken not stirred of course. One must maintain standards even in times of crisis.

Tehran Will Pay: A Promise and a Threat

According to Google translated social media Israel's Defense Minister is promising Tehran will 'pay the price.' He is probably going to have to take a number and stand in line. It seems the IDF has been busy bombing weapon production sites in Tehran. Meanwhile back in Israel rocket strikes have caused casualties and chaos. It's all rather messy isn't it? Makes you long for a quiet evening at the casino with a well mixed Vesper and a worthy adversary. Though I suppose this situation does have its moments of tension right?

Trump Card: America's Next Move

And then there's the American angle. With Washington's canceled nuclear deal talks and Trump's previous hard stance everyone's wondering what Uncle Sam will do. Word is Trump nixed an Israeli plan to off Iran's supreme leader. Even I have my limits you know. All this cloak and dagger diplomacy is being discussed at the G7 no doubt over lukewarm canapés and forced smiles. One hopes they can find a solution before this whole situation goes completely 'bang bang you're dead'.
