A Song of Ice and…Rising Prices?

Hmph. As Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen First of Her Name Queen of Meereen Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons I've faced down armies slavers and even the Night King (though admittedly Jon Snow did the stabbing bit). But *this*…this Fed statement? This is more terrifying than a White Walker convention. They say the only constant is change but even the Iron Bank seems less shifty than these pronouncements. Where is the fire and blood when you need to burn away the economic jargon?

What is Dead May Never Die (Except Maybe Inflation)

So the esteemed members of the Federal Open Market Committee in their infinite wisdom have decided to…hold steady. That’s right *steady*. As if holding steady ever won a war! Or you know stabilized an economy teetering on the edge of a dragon pit. They've taken away some words added others – it's like they're playing a game of cyvasse with the entire realm’s economy! One must look closely and listen even more carefully to what is not said. The deleted text is almost as meaningful as the bold pronouncements.

Uncertainty is Coming

They whisper of 'rising uncertainty.' Uncertainty? I've had more certainty staring down Drogon after a poorly cooked goat. This ‘uncertainty’ seems to be the only certainty these days! Perhaps I should unleash my dragons on the stock market just to clear things up a bit. It would certainly make things more interesting… and possibly more stable. Fire and blood after all can be a great motivator… for *some* people.

Stagflation: The New Long Night?

And *stagflation*! The very word sounds like something cooked up in a Maester’s lab after too much ale. Low growth AND high inflation? It’s like being forced to eat burnt mutton for all eternity. They are clearly dancing around the issue. I will take what is mine with fire and blood but I would prefer the gold is not already devalued by then!

Where’s Tyrion When You Need Him?

Where is Tyrion Lannister when you need an economist? He was very astute and knowledgable. Instead we have Jerome Powell. I'm sure he is doing his best but I'd still rather have a dragon by my side during an economic crisis. At least Drogon is upfront about burning things.

The Iron Throne (of the Federal Reserve)

So what does it all mean? Winter is coming. Again. But this time it's an economic winter filled with uncertainty slow growth and inflated prices. I would suggest everyone stock up on dragon glass… and maybe some gold. And perhaps learn to ride a dragon. You never know when it might come in handy. After all a dragon is not a slave… but a hedge against inflation? Now *that's* something to consider.

Anyone else think Jerome Powell looks a bit like a Maester?

I miss the days when the biggest problem was just a zombie army.
