Why is the Rum Gone? Oh Wait It's Just the Sapphire Fee!

Blast and barnacles! It appears JPMorgan Chase has decided to chart a course towards deeper waters... of exorbitant fees that is. They're hoisting the Jolly Roger on their Sapphire Reserve card raising the annual fee to a staggering $795! That's more than I've paid for a decent ship in my day! But fear not savvy spenders for they claim to be offering a king's ransom in benefits. Remember though: Not all treasure is silver and gold mate. Sometimes it's just a cleverly disguised bill.

More Booty or Just Fool's Gold?

Now JPMorgan claims that these new perks will be worth more than $2,700 a year. That's a lot of rum! Doubled points for travel credits for hotels dining... even subscriptions to those glowing rectangles that seem to hypnotize the youngsters these days. One must wonder though if this be a genuine treasure map or just another Siren's call leading us to the rocks of financial ruin. As I always say 'The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.' Or in this case the size of your credit card bill!

Unlock the Kraken...I Mean More Perks!

For those willing to spend like a drunken sailor – $75,000 a year no less! – JPMorgan promises even more glittering prizes. Elite status at airlines and hotels apparently. Though I've always found my charm and a well placed bribe to be far more effective. Still if ye be inclined to chase such things may your journey be filled with smooth seas and favorable winds.

Business is Booming...Or is it Plundering?

Ah but it doesn't stop there savvy? They've also introduced a Sapphire Reserve business card! Targeting the merchants eh? Offering credits for ZipRecruiter and Google Workspace. A clear broadside against American Express who have been pillaging those waters for years. It seems this be a war of attrition... who can offer the most shiny trinkets before the ship sinks?

Is This Upgrade Sinking or Swimming?

One must question if this bold move will pay off. Will these affluent landlubbers embrace the higher fee or will they abandon ship for cheaper waters? Some say the card used to be a 'middle class play,' but now it is aiming for a more shall we say *exclusive* clientele. A gamble indeed. But as I always say 'Why is the rum always gone?' Oh right I drank it.

All Card Companies Battle Savvy?

And what of the competition? American Express naturally will be sharpening their cutlasses and preparing a counter attack. The game of credit card cat and mouse continues with each company vying for the hearts (and wallets) of the wealthy. The real question is will these perks actually be used or will they simply gather dust like forgotten treasure in a long lost cave? Time will tell mates. Time will tell. And remember 'Not all treasure is silver and gold mate.' Sometimes it's just a lower interest rate.
