Word on the street – or rather the high seas of information – is that while everyone’s flapping about the U.S. meddling with those scallywags Israel and Iran there's a far more intriguing tale brewing in the East. Seems China's thrown a shindig called the "Summer Davos" in Tianjin. But this ain't your average pirate's social mind you. This is about… *gasp* …reshaping the world order! Now where's my compass? It appears to be pointing toward the Global South. The Global South mind you! Not to be confused with the Southern tip of my ship the Black Pearl so hoist the colors this be interesting.

Ten years past the currents carried goods and gold 'tween East and West. Now? Now the flow's all about the Global South – Southeast Asia Africa Latin America and the Middle East. Places ripe for… trade savvy? All those neutral countries ready to do business across what they call 'geopolitical fractures'. Frankly sounds like a good excuse for a party. And who’s orchestrating this grand dance? China of course! Looks like they're aiming to be the captain of this new fleet. "We could be moving to a world where Asia and the Middle East emerge as a new and compelling economic bloc". Fair winds and following seas to that notion!

Now this Summer Davos has been around since '07 switching 'tween Tianjin and Dalian. But with local conferences popping up and the economy slowing the shine’s worn off a bit. That is until recently! Seems the pandemic and those pesky U.S. China squabbles have stirred things up forcing the world to seek other options! Now everyone is looking to China to see whats new like AI!
Tariff Troubles and Global South Hustle
Word is those U.S. tariffs have been a real eye opener for the Global South. A right 'wake up call' as they say. Now they're all scrambling to diversify. Places like Egypt and Vietnam are keen to enhance their competitiveness. Egypt's even aiming to be in the top 20 for business competitiveness by 2030. A noble ambition! All the better for trade.
Reshaping the World? I'll Drink to That!
So what's the moral of this story savvy? As those U.S. China tensions linger more countries are likely to say "Aye aye!" to China's call to reshape the world. Perhaps just perhaps a new era is dawning. Or maybe it's just the rum talking. Either way Captain Jack Sparrow smells opportunity on the wind. The News also tells that there have been renewed interest in Hong Kong as a market attracting a wave of foreign investors and IPOs. Also both U.S. and China are feeling the pressure to "lower the temperature" on their trade relationship. Also corporates in China have shown resilience despite external threats including tariff uncertainties and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. A lot is happening!
