The Relative Reality of Oil and Turmoil

Good heavens! It appears the universe is expanding and so too are oil prices! News from the Middle East indicates a rather... shall we say *energetic* shift in nuclear negotiations with Iran. President Trump like a photon refusing to be in two places at once has adopted a more definitive – and concerning – tone. The withdrawal of American personnel? It's like Schrödinger's troops; are they there or are they not? It all depends on whether we open the box doesn't it? As I always say only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity and I'm not so sure about the universe!

Tehran's Uncertainty Principle

Tehran meanwhile insists its uranium enrichment is for entirely peaceful pursuits. Peaceful! As peaceful as a cat chasing a laser pointer! But the IAEA is raising eyebrows declaring Iran in non compliance. It seems everyone is speaking a different language a Tower of Babel built on isotopes and political machinations. One can only hope that in the midst of this chaos the pursuit of knowledge will prevail over the pursuit of power. Or as I sometimes quip "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits!"

E=MC Hammer to Fall?

Now whisperings of military action from Israel are circulating like rumors on the speed of light. A conflict with Iran a nation of 93 million is a prospect that sends shivers down my theoretical spine. The potential impact on global markets alone could make the Great Depression look like a minor fluctuation! Let us hope cooler heads prevail because as I famously declared "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

Zero Enrichment? A Quantum Leap Too Far

Ah the crux of the matter: uranium enrichment! Mr. Trump insists on zero enrichment a demand as inflexible as the speed of light itself. This is a tough pill to swallow for Tehran which insists on its right to a civilian nuclear program. It's a bit like asking a baker to bake bread without flour! The debate rages on a chaotic dance between diplomacy and defiance. The real problem is in the hearts and minds of men. It is not a problem of physics but of ethics.

Compromise: The Bending of Spacetime?

Suggestions for compromise abound including a regional nuclear consortium. A consortium you say? Sounds a bit like a theoretical physicist's cocktail party! While such ideas might seem promising they're as yet as solid as pudding in a windstorm. The Iranians seek a lasting right to enrichment and of course sanctions relief. After all what is a nation without a healthy economy? A bit like a universe without dark matter: it just doesn't quite hold together! It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.

The Threat's Gravity

And then there's the small matter of Iran threatening to target U.S. assets in the region. This my friends is not a theoretical exercise! The potential for a devastating confrontation is…well it’s quite real. Let us hope diplomacy that often unpredictable force can steer us away from the abyss. After all as I’ve always believed peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.
