The Empire Strikes Back... With Wallets!
Well well well what have we here? Seems the galaxy's still got a taste for the finer things even after all the Imperial credits the New Republic keeps trying to tax. LVMH those folks who make shiny trinkets and things that tell you the time (or at least try to) are reporting a bit of a comeback. Word on the street is their watch and jewelry division is doing better up 3% after some less than stellar quarters. I've seen worse believe me. And get this – they're outperforming the fancy space clothes and grog sectors. Who knew? This is the way I suppose... for their quarterly reports.
This is the Way of the American Credit!
The big shots over at LVMH are saying this bump is thanks to you lot. Word is Americans are splashing the credits on watches and jewelry both here in the Outer Rim *and* in the Core Worlds. Seems those fancy watches and gems are like shiny distractions from blaster fire and political squabbles. Bulgari CEO Jean Christophe Babin even admitted he's 'positively surprised.' I haven't heard anyone say *that* about the New Republic Senate in ages. Even Tiffany & Co. is seeing folks willing to throw down credits for a little bit of sparkle now that the election dust has settled... apparently credits really do buy happiness or at least *shiny* happiness. I have spoken.
Tariffs: The Price You Pay For the Beskar... I Mean Swiss Made!
Of course there's always a catch. The specter of tariffs looms like a hungry Sarlacc pit. These luxury watches and jewelry are mostly made in Switzerland and France and those tariffs could sting. But the suits over at LVMH seem to think they can handle it. After all they're used to juggling credits in all sorts of weird systems. And hey if tariffs get too high maybe folks will just take a trip to Europe to buy their loot credits in hand. After all as Jean Arnault says 'it's the same for us' whether you buy it in the U.S. or in the Core Worlds. Though he *does* need to wait a 'whole generation' before Louis Vuitton is the first name in watches. I can introduce him to Grogu... he's awfully persuasive when he wants something!
New Gear New Hope!
In true fashion these companies aren't resting on their laurels. Louis Vuitton is launching a new watch collection inspired by old airport displays (fancy!) and TAG Heuer is partnering with Formula 1 replacing Rolex as the official timekeeper. They're seeing a boost in sales already from that F1 announcement. Meanwhile Tiffany's apparently doubled its average price point since LVMH took over. Upgrades high end jewelry and 'icon' collections are all the rage... their best seller is a gold chain link necklace that sells for over $19,000. This is the Way... to make money I guess!
Serpent of Credits!
Bulgari is hoping for a boost from the year of the snake in the Chinese zodiac with their 'Serpenti Viper' collection leading the charge. CEO Babin is hoping that government stimulus may start 'rebuilding customer confidence this year'. Who knew? I thought all the credits went to the Hutts... I have spoken.
The Force is Female (And She's Buying Her Own Jewelry!)
The times they are a changin'. Turns out women are earning more credits and buying their own jewelry now instead of waiting for someone to gift it to them. I guess even Mandalorians have to keep up with the times. As Babin said 'Women's purchasing power is very similar to men's purchasing power which is a revolution in luxury.' So there you have it: the galaxy's appetite for fancy watches and gems is back thanks to strong American spending. I might just have to invest in some shiny Beskar... it would look good next to my blaster.
