Up Up and Away... to the White House!

Greetings citizens of Earth! It's your friendly neighborhood Superman reporting live from… well not exactly Metropolis. Seems even the President needs a little retail therapy advice these days! President Trump in a move that's faster than a speeding bullet (though perhaps not as well aimed) recently gathered the titans of retail at the White House. You know the folks who bring you everything from super powered cleaning supplies to heat vision resistant cookware... okay maybe not that last one.

Who's Who in the Retail Zoo

Among the distinguished guests was Doug McMillon of Walmart a name synonymous with value – like a good Fortress of Solitude security system! Brian Cornell from Target also graced the meeting with his presence. I hear they were discussing how to keep prices down which is crucial because even Superman has a budget for Kryptonite proof underwear! Representatives from Home Depot and Lowe's were there too probably brainstorming ways to build a better… economy. Seems like everyone's trying to hammer out a solution to this tariff situation. Let's just hope they don't nail it to the wall!

The Secret Meeting: More Confidential Than My Clark Kent Disguise

Interestingly this meeting was shrouded in more secrecy than my Clark Kent disguise. No public schedule appearance! It's like they were trying to keep it a secret from Lex Luthor himself. But fear not your super reporter is always on the case. Turns out the big topic was how these looming tariffs could impact their businesses. You know the businesses that keep our homes stocked and our wardrobes… well at least mostly stylish.

Identical Statements: More Alike Than Bizarro and I!

After the meeting Walmart Target and Home Depot released nearly identical statements. I'm talking uncanny valley identical! It's like they all used the same super powered word processor. “We had a productive meeting,” they all chirped. Productive? Well I hope so. I trust those words more than I trust Lex Luthor bearing gifts.

Walmart's American Dream (and Global Reality)

Now Walmart seems to be in a slightly better position boasting that about two thirds of their goods are Made in the USA. That's great news! As an all American superhero I really support local production. But let's not forget that the other third comes from places like China and Mexico. It's a global village after all and even Metropolis gets its share of imports. Target on the other hand might be feeling the pinch more with their trendy overseas goods. Time to find a new super power: domestic manufacturing!

The National Retail Federation Sounds the Alarm: 'More Tariffs Equal More Anxiety!'

The National Retail Federation is not happy. They're worried about the impact on everyday folks. David French their executive VP even said “More tariffs equal more anxiety and uncertainty!” He is right. It is time to start being anxious. It's like Lex Luthor writing economic policy. I do hope these retail giants can find a way to keep the economy strong. After all a man is only as good as his word and a strong economy is a super one!
