A Darkest Hour for Beer?
Greetings fellow sentient beings! Optimus Prime here reporting on a situation that while not quite on the scale of Unicron devouring planets is still cause for concern. It appears Constellation Brands purveyors of fine beverages such as Corona and Modelo have reported a dip in beer sales. A two percent decrease to be precise. Two percent! That's like losing two gears in my transformation sequence! Is this the end of the world as we know it? No of course not. But it's still not ideal.
Trump's Policies: More Than Meets the Eye?
The root cause according to reports is the policies of one Donald Trump. Apparently his stance on immigration has caused some consternation among Hispanic consumers who it turns out are rather fond of Constellation's offerings. Now I'm no politician I'm just a humble Autobot leader. But even I can see that when people are worried about being deported they might be less inclined to kick back with a cold one. It's a logical if unfortunate consequence. As we always say 'Freedom is the right of all sentient beings'. But what good is freedom if you're too worried to enjoy it?
ICE Raids: Chilling More Than Just the Beer?
Bill Newlands CEO of Constellation acknowledged that raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were making it difficult to predict consumer behavior. Difficult to predict? I can predict one thing: fear and uncertainty don't generally lead to celebratory beer purchases. This is a problem. We Autobots are all about optimism! About moving forward! How can we roll out when everyone is worried about being rolled up?
Inflation Fears: Fueling More Than Just My Tank?
The article also mentions concerns about inflation among both Hispanic and non Hispanic consumers. Everyone's worried about the cost structure according to Newlands. Well I know a thing or two about cost structures. Maintaining my Autobots and my vehicle form is expensive. But what do they expect me to do? Transform into a more fuel efficient car? I'm Optimus Prime! I don't do compromises! Besides the Decepticons won't wait because of high fuel prices!
Modelo and Corona Feeling the Heat
Half of Constellation's beer sales comes from Latinos in the U.S. HALF! That's like losing half the Autobot team! This has caused Constellation's earnings to fall short of Wall Street's projections. It's not just Constellation either Coca Cola and Colgate Palmolive were also among the companies that tied a slowdown in U.S. sales to a pullback by Hispanic shoppers. Oh my god!
Reiterating Confidence: Hope Remains!
Despite this economic turmoil Constellation is reiterating its full year outlook. They're signaling confidence! That's the spirit! Never give up never surrender! Or as I like to say 'Autobots transform and roll out!' Let's hope that Constellation can weather this storm and that consumers can find some peace of mind. After all we all deserve a little refreshment even in the face of adversity. For now Optimus Prime signing off.
