Air Jordan Takes on the Political Court
Alright folks MJ here. I've seen a lot of games and I've seen a lot of political plays too. This news about Ed Martin and his nomination? Well it's like watching someone try to take me one on one. They might think they have a shot but...failure to launch. Senator Tillis he's playing some serious defense here. And from where I sit it's all about winning. You wanna be the best? You gotta make the tough calls and Tillis is doing just that.
Tillis Says "No No! Not in My House!"
So Tillis basically told the White House 'I wouldn't support his nomination.' Ouch. That's like missing a wide open layup. He's pointing to Martin's views on those January 6th cases. Apparently Martin thinks some of those folks were 'over prosecuted.' Look everyone's got their opinion but when you're trying to get confirmed for a job like U.S. Attorney especially in D.C. you better know the political climate. You miss the layup you pay the price.
The January 6th Debacle: A Political Foul
Now this whole January 6th thing? That's a foul plain and simple. Trump wanted everyone to march to the Capitol stir up some trouble. Things got out of hand and now we got all this drama. Martin’s support for defendants in those cases? That's like trying to argue with a ref when you know you committed the foul. You might get away with it sometimes but not when the stakes are this high. 'Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence win championships.' And in this case intelligence seems to be telling Tillis to pass on Martin.
Chairman Grassley Throws an Assist...or Does He?
Grassley the Judiciary Committee Chairman isn't exactly rushing to put Martin's nomination on the agenda. It's like he's sizing up the court figuring out if it's even worth trying a three pointer. He wants to help the President get his nominees through but he also wants those nominees to have the votes. 'Republicans buy sneakers too.' Gotta play the game smart know your audience. And right now it looks like Martin doesn't have the votes.
A Good Meeting But a Bad Omen
Tillis says he met with Martin and it went well. Sure sometimes you can have a great conversation with someone but that doesn't mean you're gonna endorse their policies. Tillis thinks some of those January 6th folks were over prosecuted but he also believes the ones who breached the Capitol should have faced some time behind bars. That's a clear line in the sand. You cross that line you're going to face consequences. You see that's what separates the good from the great. If you quit once it becomes a habit. Never quit!!!
D.C. or No D.C.? That is the Question.
Tillis basically said he'd probably support Martin for U.S. Attorney anywhere *but* D.C. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's like trying to sell ice to Eskimos. You can be the best salesman in the world but if the demand isn't there you're not gonna make the sale. And in D.C. after January 6th Martin's views are just not going to fly. Game over man game over.
