Relativity of Power: Who's Got It?
Good heavens! As I understand it this chap Mike Johnson the Speaker of the House is stirring things up claiming that this War Powers Act is bunkum. He insists President Trump's actions in Iran were perfectly… *ahem*… 'constitutional.' It seems everyone is having a go at interpreting the supreme law of the land. As I always say 'The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.' And it appears a few folks in Washington could use a refresher course eh?
Quantum Entanglement of Branches
Apparently the Constitution gives Congress the authority to declare war but they haven't used that power since World War II! It seems the legislative branch is more like a theoretical particle existing in a state of superposition until someone actually observes it taking action. Meanwhile the President as Commander in Chief has significant sway over the military. I wonder is this 'balance of power' more like a seesaw with a very heavy person on one end? Reminds me of when I said 'God doesn't play dice,' but perhaps the universe is just a giant unpredictable craps game after all.
The Nixonian Paradox
This War Powers Resolution of 1973 born from the Nixon era seeks to limit presidential war waging whims. Johnson argues this violates Article II of the U.S. Constitution. My brain hurts! Trying to reconcile all of this reminds me of trying to unify gravity with quantum mechanics a task even I couldn't solve. You know 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.' Perhaps it's time for a new approach to these power struggles.
Massie's Resolution: A Schrodinger's Cat of Legislation
Now we have Representative Massie and Representative Khanna attempting to restrain any 'unauthorized hostilities' in Iran with a War Powers resolution. But hold on! Massie says he might withdraw his resolution if this ceasefire holds. Is it alive is it dead? Is it both until we open the box? The suspense is killing me! It’s as uncertain as the trajectory of a photon through a double slit. As I told you before 'The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious'.
Trump's Truth Bombs and Johnson's Juggling Act
Ah President Trump is now calling Massie a 'Third Rate Congressman' and a 'LOSER' on Truth Social! Politics like a bad joke can be cruel. Johnson has inquired whether Massie's resolution is a 'moot point.' Massie apparently said 'Yeah it probably is.' It sounds like Johnson is walking a tightrope hoping this whole thing just vanishes. Perhaps he is using his “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” to get himself out of this dilemma.
A Terrible Look? Or a Missed Opportunity?
Johnson fears that action on the resolution would be a 'terrible look' and an improper use of the law. But is avoiding a 'terrible look' more important than addressing fundamental questions about war powers? It appears this whole situation might simply fade away swept under the rug like so much cosmic dust. 'The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil but because of the people who don't do anything about it.' One must act or else history will not be kind to the ones at the helms.
