Hold Up Are We Getting Poorer?

Alright Beast Crew listen up! Word on the street (or you know in this fancy 'European Travel Commission' report) is that fewer Americans are planning summer trips to Europe. Only 33% of you legends are saying yes to croissants and castles which is down 7% from last year. What's the deal? Are we all suddenly too busy giving away Teslas? Apparently it's the high travel costs. Half of you said it's too darn expensive! I feel you – even giving away millions can put a dent in the wallet. But hey at least we're still giving stuff away!

Blame Game: Politics and Pocketbooks

The report also throws shade at political concerns. Some folks are worried about how the U.S. is perceived abroad. Ouch! But let's be real if you're skipping Europe because of politics you're missing out on some serious history and scenery. Think of all the potential video locations! On the bright side the Northeast is still keen on Europe. Maybe they just need a little more convincing. I'm thinking a challenge: 'Last to Leave the Eiffel Tower Wins a Million Dollars!' What do you think?

Hello China!

But here's where it gets interesting. While we're slacking Chinese tourism to Europe is SKYROCKETING! 72% of Chinese respondents are planning a trip which is up 10% from last year. Turns out disposable incomes are up in China and they're prioritizing experiences. Smart move! Forget the fancy cars go see the world! Maybe I should start filming in Mandarin… nah just kidding… unless?

Luxury Goods Anyone?

Europe has always been a hotspot for Chinese tourists looking to snag some fancy designer goods. But after the pandemic put a pause on everything things are picking up again. Shopping is back on the menu for over half of Chinese travelers! I get it – retail therapy is real. Sometimes after a long day of filming challenges I want to buy out an entire store. I usually just settle for a burger though.

Budget Backpacking is Back!

Hold your horses though. While they're traveling Chinese tourists might be pinching pennies a bit more. Only 29% are planning to spend over €200 a day which is a massive drop from last year. Most are aiming for the €100 €200 range. So they're seeing the sights but maybe skipping the caviar? Gotta respect the hustle! I bet I could do a challenge on who can see Europe on the tightest budget. Challenge accepted!

Final Thoughts

So what's the takeaway? Americans we need to step up our travel game! Let's show Europe what we're made of! Maybe I'll fund a trip for a lucky subscriber… or ten! And to our Chinese friends welcome to Europe! Just remember to send me a postcard (or you know a million dollars). Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe! And remember anyone can do anything. See ya!
