A Disturbance in the Force… Or Just Amazon's Org Chart?

Well well well. Seems like Amazon's been poking around in the medpac again. For nearly a decade they've been trying to muscle their way into the US healthcare market spending credits like they're going out of style. But it hasn't been smooth sailing. Bunch of executives jumped ship leaving the whole operation lookin' like a Sarlacc pit after feeding time. Now they're dividing Amazon Health Services into six shiny new units hoping to unscramble this bantha fodder. I have spoken.

Mandalorian Restructuring: This Is The Way

Neil Lindsay some bigwig at Amazon Health Services told CNBC they've been tinkering with this for months. Simplifying things he says. Sounds like a load of Jawa scrap if you ask me. But hey if it means less fragmentation for folks needing a bacta tank I'm all ears. Seems they've tapped some long time Amazonians and even promoted some One Medical types to steer these new divisions. No broad layoffs they claim. We'll see about that. I've seen more stable jobs on Tatooine.

The Great Purge... Of Executives

First Dr. Vin Gupta from Amazon Pharmacy took off. Then Trent Green CEO of One Medical vanished faster than a bounty hunter after getting paid. And Aaron Martin VP of healthcare announced he's heading for the Outer Rim too. Even Sunita Mishra Amazon's chief medical officer hit the hyperspace button. Seems like everyone's jumping ship before it hits a space slug. Aaron Martin is forming a cover band. A cover band. This is not the way.

Ambitious Efforts I Can Bring You In Warm... Or I Can Bring You In Cold

Amazon's been on a mission to crack the multi trillion dollar healthcare industry for years. They bought PillPack launched Amazon Pharmacy and then snagged One Medical for a cool $3.9 billion. Tried telehealth with Amazon Care but that went belly up faster than a podracer in a sandstorm. Remember Haven? The joint venture with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase? That imploded like a Death Star. Now PillPack's founders are back with a new health care marketplace to compete with Amazon. Talk about betrayal. This is getting heated. I can bring you in warm or I can bring you in cold...

Pillars of… What Exactly?

So what are these six pillars? One Medical Clinical Care Delivery One Medical Clinical Operations and Performance AHS Strategic Growth and Network Development AHS Store Tech and Marketing AHS Compliance and AHS Pharmacy Services. Sounds like a protocol droid threw up alphabet soup. Amazon ain't sharing the credits on how much this is all costing them but they claim they're seeing 'strong growth.' One Medical was losing money before Amazon gobbled it up. Now they are opening offices everywhere. Let's hope they can keep their ship flying.

The Future Is Now (Or Whenever Amazon Figures It Out)

Amazon claims their pharmacy business has doubled its customers. They're opening pharmacies in 20 new cities and soon almost half of the US will get same day meds. Neil Lindsay says they're trying to make things easier. 'If we stack these changes up over time it'll feel like a reinvention.' Time will tell. But if they screw this up I'm not above tracking them down and adding them to my collection. This is the way.
