Up Up and Delayed!
Greetings citizens of Earth! Your friendly neighborhood Superman here reporting on a development that's causing quite a stir even in my Fortress of Solitude. It seems Nintendo that purveyor of pixelated joy has been experiencing a bit of turbulence with the pre orders for their much anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Originally set to launch on April 9th they've pushed it back to April 24th. As a man who understands the importance of punctuality (saving the world on a schedule you know) I find this delay… concerning. But fear not faithful gamers I'm here to shed some light faster than a speeding bullet!
Trump Tariffs: A Real Kryptonite for the Switch 2?
The culprit behind this postponement you ask? Why those pesky tariffs imposed by former President Trump! Apparently these "reciprocal" tariffs are hitting Nintendo right in the motherboard as they manufacture their goods in Asia like China and Vietnam. Talk about a geopolitical supervillain move! It's enough to make even me want to give someone the ol' heat vision glare. But I digress. These tariffs are essentially taxes on imported goods and with rates soaring as high as 145% on Chinese goods it's no wonder Nintendo's feeling a bit…super stressed. It is like Lex Luthor trying to manipulate the market to bankrupt Superman.
The Price of Power (Ups)!
Now for the nitty gritty. The Nintendo Switch 2 will still cost $449.99 in the U.S. and the "Mario Kart World" bundle will set you back $499.99. So far so good. But hold on to your hats because accessories are about to get a little pricier. A dock set will cost you $10 more a controller strap a whole dollar! and most other accessories will see a $5 increase. It is like charging Lois an extra dime for coffee which is totally unacceptable. According to Nintendo: "We apologize for the retail pre order delay and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our consumers may be experiencing," . I do hope this hiccup wont affect the games quality but what it means to me is less money in the pockets of consumers.
Best Buy to the Rescue (Almost)!
Thankfully there's a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Retail giant Best Buy is stepping up to the plate opening most of its stores at midnight on the official launch day June 5 2025 so eager gamers can get their hands on the Switch 2 immediately. This is the closest you can get to feeling the speed of Superman flying to your doorstep. Remember a hero is someone who is selfless and saves the day and here it is Best Buy.
Faster Than a Speeding Bullet (Train)!
So what's the takeaway from all this? Well it seems like even Nintendo isn't immune to the complexities of global economics. But fear not dedicated gamers! While the road to the Nintendo Switch 2 may be a little bumpy it seems like they are trying to deliver the gaming experience that they are advertising. After all as my dear old dad Jor El once told me "The future is always changing. Use your gifts to guide it to a better place." Even if those gifts are lightning fast reflexes and a penchant for collecting power ups.
The Wait is Almost Over!
Just hang in there the wait is almost over! Maybe I'll even pick up a copy of "Mario Kart World" and give you all a run for your money. Until then this is Superman signing off. Remember truth justice and the Nintendo way!
