Another Day Another Revolution (Maybe?)
Well folks seems like the world's still spinning – faster than ever thanks to Mr. Musk and his latest invention: Robotaxis. Yes you heard right. Apparently he's planning to unleash these driverless wonders upon Austin Texas starting June 22nd. It’s like the Capitol decided to give us hovercrafts but instead we get self driving cars. I wonder if they'll offer rides to the Seam? Probably not. They are probably more interested in District 1 or the Capitol.
Super Paranoid (Or Just Paranoid?)
Musk claims they're being 'super paranoid about safety.' Right. Because everything in my life has screamed 'safe' lately. He even said the date could shift. You know like how the Hunger Games were 'postponed' for totally legitimate reasons. But hey at least he's sharing a video of a Model Y navigating an intersection. I guess that's supposed to reassure us. It doesn't.
Geofencing: Keeping the Chaos Contained
So they're planning to 'geofence' the service. Meaning these robotaxis will only be allowed in certain areas. Makes sense. Can't have them wandering off into the wilderness like a bunch of lost tributes. Employees will also be remotely monitoring the fleet. Because what could possibly go wrong with that? Remember when the Gamemakers thought they had everything under control? Yeah me too. I guess it will be like Haymitch giving Peeta and me advice but without the liquor breath maybe...
The Dawn Project vs. The Mockingjay
Of course not everyone's thrilled about this. A group called The Dawn Project along with some anti Musk activists are planning a protest. Apparently they have some 'safety concerns.' Shocker. Seems like someone else wants to be the Mockingjay leading the charge against the Capitol...err Tesla. Reminds me of when we burned the hovercraft in the arena!
Who's Driving This Thing Anyway?
Apparently it will be Tesla's FSD or 'Full Self Driving' technology installed. They're starting with a small rollout about 10 to 20 robotaxis with a new 'unsupervised' version. Unsupervised?? And only a Model Y? No futuristic looking CyberCab yet. Maybe next year. But still doesn't seem wise. I wonder how Peeta would do in this robotaxi. Would he like the ride or would it make him sick?
May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor: The Sequel
Look I'm not saying this whole thing is a disaster waiting to happen. But I've seen enough disasters to last a lifetime. So if you happen to be in Austin on June 22nd and you see a driverless Tesla rolling down the street just remember: may the odds be ever in your favor. You'll probably need them. And maybe grab some nightlock just in case... Just kidding (Mostly).
