Higher Further Faster... Straight into Antitrust Trouble!
Okay people Captain Marvel here reporting live from… well not space this time. Apparently the biggest battle today isn't against the Kree but against… Google? I know right? Who knew a tech giant could be more intimidating than Ronan the Accuser? A federal judge just smacked them down saying they've been playing dirty in the online advertising game. Seems like someone forgot the 'With great power comes great responsibility' memo. I thought that was Spiderman's thing?!
Ad Servers and Exchanges: Google's Personal Playground?
So here's the deal: Judge Leonie Brinkema (sounds like a formidable warrior from Hala doesn't she?) ruled that Google basically strong armed the markets for publisher ad servers and ad exchanges. Basically they've been hogging all the toys and not letting anyone else play. Apparently trying to dominate two markets like that is illegal in the eyes of the law. Although they did not have a monopoly on advertiser ad networks so props for that.
Time to Break Up the Band?
Now this is where it gets interesting. This ruling could mean the Justice Department might get to break up Google's advertising empire! They're talking about making Google sell off its Ad Manager which includes all the publisher ad server and ad exchange stuff. It's like when I had to break up that fight between Rocket and Groot over who gets to pilot the Milano. Messy but sometimes necessary. Maybe the Judge is a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy and their shenanigans.
Double Trouble: Courts vs. Google
Get this: Google might be facing not one but TWO different U.S. courts ordering them to sell assets or change their business practices. Talk about a bad week! There's another trial coming up in Washington about Google's Chrome browser and how they're dominating the online search game. It's like fighting two Kree warships at once! Yon Rogg would be impressed… or maybe just jealous.
European Vacation... to Sell Off Assets?
Word on the street (or the intergalactic comms network in my case) is that Google even considered selling off its ad exchange to appease those pesky European antitrust regulators. Seems like even the big guys get a little nervous when someone calls them out on their shenanigans. Maybe they need a visit from Captain Marvel to help them 'rearrange' their priorities.
Classic Monopoly Tactics: A Villain's Guide?
Apparently Google's been pulling the classic monopoly moves: buying up competitors locking customers into their products and controlling all the transactions. Reminds me of some of the Skrull schemes I've foiled. Google’s lawyers argued that they're evolving and that there's competition from Amazon and Comcast. Okay Google sure Jan. But the Judge seems to disagree. It's breaking news so stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. This is Captain Marvel signing off... for now!
